Hi guys, was hoping if anyone knew some good racks that fit over a bed cover. Going camping next year and was hoping to purchase bed racks while still keeping the bed cover on for security. It’s a trifold Bakflip hard cover, on a 5ft bed.

All Max Modular bed racks work with tonneau covers.

If your factory accessory rails are relocated, you need these brackets along with the rack: https://www.max-modular.com/shop-max-modular/tonneau-brackets-bakflip

From what I understand, KB voodoo bars will rust and paint chip when scratched, these billiebars are aluminum rails, so they won’t rust and they hold more weight!

Their uprights are made from steel and can rust just as easily as anything made from steel.

We also offer an aluminum version: https://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/toyota-tacoma-aluminum-hi-rise-crossbars-for-use-with-tonneau-covers

Nobody has complained about your bars rusting at the uprights, no metal on metal rub.
Just on the bars where crossbars slide across

Get a retrax xr and a uptop mid rack. You will be able to actually open your tonneau cover while the rack is still on to access items in the back. This combo served me well before I bought my cap

I also have the KB Voodoo rack and it works well for what we need it for. Holds our RTT no problem and that's 160 lbs empty.

I used a KB Voodoo rack with my encore bed cover. I used the set up with an RTT. Worked great and I would highly recommend going with them for your bed rack needs. Very durable and fantastic customer service.

I ended up purchasing a travel trailer and sold the rack and tent.

I have a the Max Modular TacoMax, this adapter give good clearance. I can roll back my Truxedo soft cover to access the bed. The Tacomax is all aluminum so, no rust. I have hundreds of miles off road with bikes and accessories on it with no issues.

I’m not certain how any of those would work with a trifold hard cover. You’d have to remove the cross bars (and everything attached to them) to open the cover and get access to the bed. Seems like a major PITA to me.

To work with a trifold cover I’d think you’d need the vertical supports to rise nearly to the height of the cab. The crossbars would be at the height of the cab roof. The supports would also have to stay on the outer edge of the bed so the cover could be flipped open.

We actually make a rack that allows a trifold cover to open:

I have the same bed cover. There's a few options (posted above) that allow you to attach the rack with a cover, but I havent been able to find one that also allows the cover to be opened.

If your accessory rails are relocated (as they most likely are), there is no option that will allow you to open the cover with a rack installed.

You could always switch to a retractable cover like the RetraxONE XR, then you would be able to fully open the cover:
