^^ Oh, no. You're treading a bit too close to a political discussion there. If you're not more careful, you'll get this thread closed.

Give suggestions that help the OP out. He didn't ask what was legal in your state!! He only asked for suggestions on a way to carry his pistol in the "console"!!!

Fair enough, but if your old enough and responsible enough to own a handgun you should also know the state laws reguarding the ownership!! Your initial comment was ok it was the 2.5 pages of B.S. after that, that I was referring too!!

    Just purchased, armor on order
    I like this one:

My take is that a side arm should be on your person, and the vehicle should carry the heavier long arm. But, not everyone lives in a state that issues carry permits.

Just stay away from Carrollton near the Interstate and you will be fine...:)

But kidding aside, I have a console vault but no gun. If you keep the vault unlocked and the knob turned to the open position when you are in the truck, you should be able to get to it in a nano-second. Then just be sure to lock the vault when you leave the truck. That way you don't have to mess with relocating the gun to a second position all the time, so i would think it would be better to minimize handling of the gun when not necessary. I drive around with the vault unlocked all the time, and secure it upon exit. It takes no longer than turning off a gps.

I think its a bad idea to have a gun in the car and not have a safe to secure it, especially in NOLA.

LOL. Relax, Andrew. As Jamie said, it was a comment posted by another (between my two comments above), promptly deleted.

You are correct; however, since I have a CWP I must have my gun on my person OR in the places you described. Sorry you had a bad night!

I carry several different guns at different times, and mine is always on my person but the problem is...when in a vehicle if I really had to get to it in a hurry it would def not be the easiest and most nonchalant way to get to it. I have been really thinking about this one: http://www.gumcreekcustoms.com/Vehicle-Handgun-Mount-p8.html
But the problem is I would have to have several different holsters depending on what I would want to carry that day.
    Kimber ultra carry II
    Glock 32c
    XDM .40
    XD9
I would like to find something versatile enough to be able to carry whatever I want.
Also poses the problem that I would need two holsters so I don't have to keep attaching/detaching the one from the truck.

Sounds like you need a metal strap to act as you waste band inside the console. I would imagine that most of them are close to the same width that you could make a metal strap that would work for all of them. You would have to drill holes to really secure the strap though.

I'll revive this old thread with my pics.

Got an Uncle Mike's Hip holster for $25 at Academy sports.
Used a dremel tool to cut off the part that is curved to fit you waist...leaving just the flat piece that mounts to the actual pistol sleeve.

Used heavy duty Velcro so that I can remove the entire thing when desired, leaving only the hook side of the Velcro on the inside of the console. I am easily able to grab/extract the weapon and the holster stays firmly in place.

Holds the 1911 .45 fully loaded with no problem.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Side holster, but more often in the console cargo net.
