Big difference in shoulder length between OEM and the Dorman 610-462. Wish I was smart enough to know if that means anything in this particular application.
    Tomorrow's another day..

I should find out tomorrow. If they’re no better, I’ll return them and try something else. If I knew what I was doing I probably would have ordered a different wheel to begin with.

Just an observation while working on my Tacoma, my scs f5 wheels get 7 turns before full torque. That's just one more turn than my venomrex vr-602s. I've wheeled the Taco on a regular basis and I haven't seen any issues brought up by other Toyota owners. Once again, just an observation. Not trying to argue one way or another.:notsure:

There never will be a problem until there is one. I saw a truck a few days ago that was missing a lug on both passenger side wheels, and he was doing just fine. That's not me. I have five and a half turns to full torque, if I had seven and a half I'd let it ride.

I ordered the H&R 1254544 45mm studs and will cut them to fit. A $100 bucks and a little of my time is a small price to pay to know the wheels aren't coming off my truck, leaving me fucked up stranded 15 miles down some unnamed road that might not a passing automobile until the next weekend.

FWIW, I think helmet laws suck, so anyone that's good rolling with 5 1/2 turns, more power to you. You'll probably be ok. Seriously.

I needed an excuse to get an angle grinder anyway.

Just a visual reference for anyone having a hard time wrapping their head around this.

This is an OEM Tacoma stud catching 5 1/2 turns on an ordinary (short) open ended lug nut.

I check my tire pressures and lug torque religiously, but I do agree that more thread engagement would be preferred.

610-462s are 44 and change from the beginning of the knurl to the end of the thread. The rims are drilled out larger then the OD of the knurl so they should fit over the shoulder no problem.

I don’t see larger shoulder being an issue unless the spare wheel is very thin steel.

    Am I missing something here?

    Nope.
That should put you at 8 1/2 +- revolutions to full torque, and gtg.

The Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner wheel applications are hub-centric at 106.2 millimeters. The 12x1.5 Spline Lug Nut Kitoffered by Venomrex for Toyota applications receive 5.5 turns when installed properly, approved within OEM Toyota specs. Running Venomrex Wheels with the Venomrex Spline Lug Nut Kit on all Toyota applications has been thoroughly tested on and off road with no known issues.

I wonder if this thread inspired that part?

The lug nut kit, no. It's been there all along.

What has been added, is the "OEM spec, 5 1/2 turns, it's all good BS"

I'm curious, what aftermarket wheels will achieve the same amount of thread engagement as oem wheels with oem lugs while using conical/acorn/tapered seat lug nuts?

^ Roughly 14 revolutions when torqued.

"Approved within OEM Toyota specs" = lol

Hopefully they'll machine the wheels to accept XT lugs in the future. Maybe just bump the price a little and throw them in with the rims.

Not the end of the world. Studs are inbound. It'll take an hour to cut them down, another hour or two to install them, and I'll continue enjoying these rims. I like 'em every time I look at 'em.

Hey guys, I was on vacation this past week. Thats some good info...this is why I love this page. When the info is good, it's right on. I got my wheels in the day I left for vacation and just saw them yesterday...I can't wait to get the rubber for them and get them mounted! @jmneill , let me know which lugs you are going with if you don't mind.

    Also, for those interested...

The current deal I have has been extended until the end of JULY!!!

Wow you guys have been busy. Finally caught up! After finding out I was being relocated down to Houston everything was put on hold and I had to haul everything down with me. But regardless, finally got everything on last weekend.
