My Taco has 6 spd-manual/six cyl. Extra main leave and lifting shocks on the front. I currently towing a 19' travel trailer App 4000#.
Wondering who has experience in towing a larger trailer? Understand Taco is meant to be rated for 6500# & 500# hitch weight?
I'd appreciate any feed back and comments.

    Cheers

That 4,000 should be no sweat for the truck , but I recommend a brake controller and WDH (weight distribution hitch).

Thanks for the come back. I do have elect brakes and a good equalizer hitch. Forgot to mention these points. 4000# is what I'm towing now. Wondering what experiences folks have had with 5000 & 5500# or.... .
I did pull a mini excavator on a fairly good size flat deck the other day and it was a bit of a grunt but did it fine. Looking to get feed back on full time towing travel trailer larger than the 4000#'s that I have now.

Having a manual transmission is better for towing. You won't have to rebuild it as often like an automatic because they don't get as hot. But, you will have clutch replacements. I'm not sure how often, depends on how often you're towing and how much weight. But it's far easier to replace a clutch than rebuild a transmission. And when it comes time, get an HD clutch.

You'll be fine trailering 4000lbs. If you're concerned about longevity, replace all gear oils with Redline (transmission, rear differential) and get a rear differential heat sink cover. Keeping the oils cool is key to max life of truck.

You should look at you're rear axle.
