Looking for ideas on a bed rack

hi, im looking to mount a basket, or fab a basket for the bed of my '13. im going to be traveling across country and i also am going to use it for offroading/camping. i am looking to make a bar system that connects to the bed rails that way i can purchase an offroad basket to mount to the top of it. i dont want anything that comes up too high over the bed rails but i still want to be able to put stuff underneath my rack. If i get one that is straight across im afraid it will be too low, but i want something that could easily be done and cheap. any ideas from yall out there?
