I recently bought my tacoma to be a future build. I'm currently looking at different racks and tents that won't totally break the bank. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking to put a topper on? Do you want bed bars? Roof top tent? Regular tent? Im not trying to sound like an a**hole but Im curious what you want the future build to be or look like

I would like to go with a rack with a soft rtt. It's just so overwhelming with the different products out there on the market. Beautiful truck by the way

Do you want bed bars, or a dull overland style bed rack?

Well I've only looked at racks and haven't explored the option of bars

Bed bars would save you some money, but you would lose the ability to mount gear on the side of the rack unless you use a molle panel.

    Plain Bed Bars, tonneau compatible

    Bed Bars with molle panel

You have good taste in Tacomas and in 2nd gens. Auto or manual? How many miles? How many owners previously?

I'm the second owner just turned 154k and it's an automatic. The original owner took very good care of it.

I will say this, if you are TRULY overlanding, dont cheap out. Cheap crap will make your experience less than fun...buy quality gear, take care of it and it will last and serve you well. "Buy once cry once" is the saying..

My plans are to hopefully do 1 or 2 trips a year. I would like to go all out on it but I know I won't be able to use it as much as I like

Make sure you start a build thread as well. Good way to bring other people and suggestions to your build to see what everyone else has. I wish you and your wallet good luck!

I greatly prefer bedbars cause I can take the whole tent setup off in about 10-15 minutes if I am taking my time. Without any ceiling lift or other people helping. I also prefer welded steel over bolted together stuff. Small hardware will loosen up over time.

    Tent: Tuffstuff trailhead
Bedbars: Some random welded bed bars I got years ago. I think tacomapocolapse, dont think they are available anymore

Cheap setup that's worked great for 4 years (Probably 50-75 nights a year)
