Hey guys, I'm Josh I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder 2.7L. Over these past few months I've been having some issues losing oil I don't have any leaks I've even removed the skid plate to look and found no leaking from the oil pan or anywhere else on the engine block but I'm consistently losing approximately a liter and a half of oil every 2000 miles. I have 172,000 miles on the truck early last year my main coolant bypass line blew on me when I spoke to Toyota they informed me that it was common but there wasn't enough claims of engine damage to warent a recall but they did improve the part from a plastic line to metal. Once I replaced that my truck was running fine it hasn't over heated since. I have been putting a lot of miles on my truck so I notice my gas mileage going down check my oil saw that it was lower than normal at this point I was only 2800 miles since my last oil change. I took it in to Toyota and had an oil change done about 5 weeks late I was at 2500 miles and my truck started to make noise and run rough it sounded like my valves were tapping and sure enough my oil was low again I took it back got an oil change and now I'm at 1892 miles from the last oil change and the noise is back and my oil is low. I'm just wondering if it is my oil rings or if there something else that could be causing this to happen?

Look for bluish white smoke coming from the tail pipe when idling or driving. It may help to have someone watch. It may possibly be bad oil rings. You stated that your coolant line blew. Was it coolant that leaked all over the place? I'm wondering if its a bad head gasket since you have small channels in the gasket and if it cracked in between a coolant and oil channel and oil is entering your coolant. Hence the increased pressure and your coolant lines blowing. Hope this helps OP and welcome to Tw!

Valve seals or piston rings. It can be hard to differentiate the two.

Valve seals usually smoke on startup, and you'll notice a puff when decelerating, especially in a manual.,
