Some of the earlier Tacoma's made of 2nd Gen(2005+) were faster then the years after. They had lowered the HP and Tourqe.

    http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/pickup/163_0412_2005_toyota_tacoma/viewall.html

2005 Tacoma specs. As it did originally, the Tacoma shares a platform and an engine with the Toyota 4Runner, in this case the gutsy all-aluminum 4.0-liter, 245-horsepower (282 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm), 24-valve V-6. Standard is an all-new cast-iron block/aluminum head 2.7-liter, 164-horsepower (183 pound-feet of torque at 3800 rpm) four-cylinder, which replaces the current 2.4- and 2.7-liter four-bangers. There will be four transmission choices: a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual for the four-cylinder engine and a new five-speed automatic and six-speed manual for the V-6. The automatics and manual transmissions are designed to save weight and smoothly manage the extra power from the stronger engines. Preliminary EPA estimates for the four-cylinder engine are 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Numbers for the bigger V-6 are 18 mpg city, 22 mpg highway.

Nothing actually changed, they just switched to SAE standards for measuring horsepower. OP, I'd give your truck a little time to loosen up and get broken in

You didn't buy a truck to be a speed demon. Just drive it and enjoy.

I guess I'll start saving for the supercharger then and yes I know that I didn't buy my truck to race but a little disappointed to spend 36k so far on my truck and being left behind with not a fast solution to remedy...

He could always gear it down if he wants more torque..

OP - you didn't by chance by some sort of modified truck from the dealer with larger than normal tires?? A larger or heavier tire will feel slower..

Our local Toyota dealer is selling a Prerunner with a 6 inch (Procomp?) lift and 35 inch tires.. if it's not regeared that would feel much slower.. Also, if you have say "Class E" BFG's or other tires, that will feel much slower because it's a heavier tire..

I personally have never felt like my truck was slow, it keeps up with traffic fine and if you plant the peddle it gives you plenty of power. I find that its a little too easy to speed in my family's BMW's. The truck goes the speed limit nicely and has plenty of power for merging onto the freeway.. I have a 2010

Since they're 18's he probably also has aftermarket rims which are probably steel, not alloy, so they would add a significant amount of weight (unsprung) which will kill his performance..

You would think he would mention this in his Original Post...
