Good day TW! I am hoping someone here can help.

We have our 2012 Tacoma and a 2001 Mercedes ML55. As both vehicles are OBD 2 compliant, I was hoping we could find a tool that would let us manipulate bother vehicles.

First thing, when I did the lift on the Toyota it threw out an error code that my Torque app did not see. Turns out it was a pitch sensor on the steering column. Really PEAVED me off.

No, on of the computer systems in the Mercedes has given up the ghost. From my research, it is as simple as plugging the new unit in ($540 effing dollars later....gotta love German cars) and programming it. I have all the data sheets I need to do the programming, I just need an OBD computer that will communicate with it. The dedicated Mercedes ones I have been finding are around $600 to $800.

Are there any mechanics, or other professionals, out there who could point me in the direction of ONE OBD tool that would allow me to do this in depth work on both vehicles? I am really at my wits end about this.

    Thank you.

From what I've seen they are specific to each vehicle...but that was a few years ago I was looking at them.

Thanks. I have seen some "universal" ones on the Internet, but I really do not trust the advertising there. I think Matco makes on for a LOT of money. It seems reasonable that there must be one out there for independent mechanics.

I know snap on makes some great ones that u can buy manufacturer specific programs for them.
They can get pretty dam expensive but you can usually find some slightly used one cheaper.
