I've known for awhile that my cam seals are leaking (V6) but just recently it started leaving a puddle in the driveway of nice clean oil. It seems to collect on the bottom of the bell housing before dripping on the steering rack and ultimately on the ground. Looking around I took a few pictures (below). I seem to have more oil leaking than what seems to be coming from the cam seals. Looking at my pan I see a kind of smooshed up gasket there, does anyone know what that is (last photo)? Is that my oil pan gasket not installed correctly??

Probably your valve covers. Mine leaked pretty bad when I replaced them. No puddle but when driving, there was smoke from the exhaust it was leaking on.

Looking more in the service manual I can't see what that rubber piece is (smashed between the oil pan and transmission cover). I think tonight I'll remove the flywheel housing under cover to see if that exposes more.

It doesn't look like it, it doesn't appear to be round, also it's been that way since I bought the truck over a year ago, and hasn't left a puddle before.

Took off the inspection plate tonight and found that the rubber piece does belong there. It acts as a seal between the plate and the oil pan. I cleaned the hole in the bottom of the bell housing, I hope I'll be able to tell if oil is coming from inside or just dripping down the bell housing from higher up, meaning the cams would be the only source of my leak.
