I have in my sight a 99 2wd prerunner with 135k. V6 auto clean carfax, asking 7000$. My question is, is the TRD package and locker really worth it? Did i find a good deal? I didnt see any carfax report on timing belt so lets assume i need to change it. Any input at all would help, sorry if i left anything out.

This response makes no sense at all.
You are saying the price of $7000 is too much because you also paid $7000 for a vehicle worth less.

If you were a member of this forum selling said truck, everyone would say "ask $12,000 and stand firm at $10,500"

but, according to KBB, $7,000 is a bit above book value, even in excellent condition. In good condition, KBB recommends paying ~$6,300. If it's a good looking truck, I would start negotiations at $5k, then max out at $5,800.

Personally, I think the TRD package is worth it. It's gotten to the point (age of vehicles) where you can't really negotiate up or down on the presence of a package such as TRD. The TRD package cost an extra ($1500? $2000?) 15 years ago...so what do you think it's worth now? But I would much prefer the package. I like the ride it gives and that e-locker is cool!

edit: I didn't see your link previously. I now see that the truck is being sold by a dealer. In that case, try to stick it to 'em. Get that thing for like $5400 or less!

ahh yes. that makes a big difference.

To be realistic though...Toyota has a good idea with the PreRunner. Most people want the 4x4 look and couldn't care less if it has the 4x4 guts. Some people would actually prefer not having the 4x4 parts. Less weight, less coss, better MPG, less maintenance, less things to break.

The only significant difference in the TRD is the locker. If you don't have any offroading plans, then its not worth it. If you do, then verify that it actually does have the locker (bolted on to the drivers side of the rear diff).
