I have been badgering my wife for close to a year to let me sell my PreRunner and get a similar truck in 4x4. She is now on board with two stipulations...the new truck stays stock with absolutely no modifications and I keep it for a minimum of 7 years. No Duratrac's, no window tint, nothing.

Now, I don't really need 4x4, but I really want it so I can go Uwharrie National Forest and do some real trails (maybe?), and I feel inferior when I see a 4x4 taco. Right now my PreRunner is fairly capable and it has gone on some logging trails to hunting camp where my Father-In-Law's stock 2009 non-SR5 4cyl AC 4x4 has got stuck following me in the mud.

The new truck would be a 2011 DCLB SR5. Right now I have a 2009 DCLB TRD Sport (check my profile for mods).

I am honestly torn on what to do. Please lend some input, opinions, insults, or anything that will help me make a decision!

Do what makes you happy. You put a fair bit of work into the truck you have...So I'd probably keep it.

I'm not sure that 7 years of no mods would fly with me-I mean...No TINT?? Serious?? I'd keep the good that I have instead of hoping the grass on the 4x4 side is greener.

If you really don't need the 4x4, I'd keep what you have and continue to mod it to you liking. To me, the mods are what makes your truck "yours" and not like any other similar stock truck.

I would pull the stuff you have on your truck off a make it as colse to stock as possible (hopefully you kept the original shocks and stuff) and get the 4x4 i would be the same way you are about the seeing a 4x4 thing.

No mods for 7 years? Keep the PreRunner and continue to mod* it.

*4x4 conversion counts as a mod :stirthepot:

A stock 4x4 is not that great. Especially if your wanting to do trails. A lift and maybe some armor is nice. So o say keep it.

If you can't mod the 4x4 then keep the prerunner. Heck, mod the prerunner to add in 4x4. I'm sure it would be costly, but shouldn't be much more than what it would take to take the hit on the trade... PLUS you get to keep modding!

    Also, stock 4x4's suck! :D

I would take the 4x4 for sure - even without mods.

How long could she possibly stick to guns about the no mod rule. I say get the 4x4 if you really want it. You will be able to talk her into a couple mods soon enough.

I don't know if it's possible, but can you to take off some of your mods from your current tacoma and use them on a new one? Maybe you could return it to stock. Otherwise if you don't really need a 4x4 then I say keep the one you've got. I'm looking to get a DC LB 4x4 and have had my eye on your prerunner, I like they way it looks.

Bro, sorry but if you have to ask and listen to the wife in everything, then you are pussy whipped.

You are a man, you do whatever you want. Giving all your power to the woman is a bad thing! It needs to be equal to work out!

Well if you want to know what my experience from today was about trading my 2008 Dbl Cab TRD Sport long bed prerunner in on a 2011 Dbl Cab Trd Offroad @ $29,010 was then here ya go..... I was offered $17k for my truck with 50,000 miles after I took all my mods off of it, with all my mods only $15k and I get a discount on new toyotas through my work with saves me about 3 - 4 grand out the door.My truck is not paid for either, so right there im upside down 4 grand. I honestly think I got screwed when I bought the my truck @ 33 grand. My fault though so im not gonna bitch. But anyhow I did not trade mine in on a 4x4 because I woulda been crazy to. Thats my experience. Oh yeah and I thought this was effin hillarious, the sales manager comes out and asks me what all I had done to the truck and what I had paid for because they sent a truck to Jacksonville, FL to have is lifted, 20's, bull bar, step bars and told me they paid like $6 grand for all that shit. I had no comment for him though.... They obviously liked my truck cause all the damn salesman where out there standing around it staring while I was looking on the lot. So id say keep yours bro, and if it really really comes down to it, put 4wd on later yourself, thats what I plan to do in the distant future. just my opinion.
