I have a 95.5 4WD Tacoma that I bought new in October of '95. It was my primary vehicle for 8 or 9 years, since then it has become a secondary vehicle driven very little. It has about 175K miles on it. The hood has some hail damage but otherwise the body and interior are in good shape. Modifications include: Rhino spray in bed liner, aluminum tool box, Pioneer CD/radio with speakers (sounds good), light bar with Piaa lights, 2" lift (Old Man Emu struts with add a leaf and new rear shocks). 265/75 R16 mud tires on Moto Metal wheels. The lift was added in March of last year, in May it threw a rod thru the block and has been sitting up ever since. It will cost between $5-$6K to replace the engine. My wife just lost her job, so keeping it and replacing the engine seems very unlikely now. I'm thinking about selling it but what is a fair price? I appreciate any constructive input.

im sure you can find a good used running engine and get that put in for under $2k including labor even if its a v6 3.4 engine since the price of engines isn't that different from I4 to v6. you could have yours rebuilt and made new again for around $4k-$5k

what part of the country are you in and what type of engine do you need?

the best replacement engine would be a low mileage one from a local salvage yard out of a wrecked truck. I say wrecked because if it wasn't wrecked then the only other reason it isn't on the road would be engine or tranny problems.

you can get JDM engines from japan for under $1000 that are worth using even though the mileages claimed are often inaccurate, they still are good running working engines at very reasonable prices because they deal in bulk supplies of motors
