I've currently got a 2012 xc sr5 4x4 that i soon plan to lift with this kit: http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p227/Coil/Blistein_5100_Kit_(HS05BK-1).html

this should get me about 2-2.5" in the front and 1.5-2" in the rear. I was originally going to bump up my tires from the stock 245/75r16 to 265/75r16, but I would like to go as wide/chunky as possible with as few mods as possible (i don't mind removing the mud flaps or doing minimal trimming). It seems like the more research i do tho, the more conflicting info i get!

So I've got a few questions for TW and would be super thankful for any feedback.

    1. I know i can run 265/75r16 with no issue at all, can i do the same with a 275/70r16 or will i need to trim? Aside from the physical dimensions, what are the pro's/cons to these 2 sizes?

    2. I've seen a lot of people with 2-3" lifts run 285/75r16 on stock wheels. Some say they needed a spacer to get rid of rub, others said spacers caused more rub. What's your experience with this?

    3. Lastly, like a lot of us, my funds are a bit limited, so I'd like to keep my tires under $500-600 if possible. Was considering the kuhmo road venture, cooper at3, and the yokohama goelandar. Which do you guys thinks is best suited for a dd car with some light-moderate off roading?

I apologize if these questions have already been answered in other threads, but I appreciate any and all answers!!

I back Cooper, run 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx and they look beefier than the same size ATP/AT3.

Look at the Falken wildpeak at3w. Discount tire direct sells the 265/75/16 for $124 ea. 285/70/17 $161 ea. killer prices for a severe weather rated all terrain tire. Might want a small wheel spacer with stock rim if you go 275 or bigger.

Not gonna lie, those look incredible! But at $205 a piece, they're a bit outside my price range :( cooper st maxx.jpg

The spacer vs no spacer debate is caused by the offset of the wheels. If you are going to be running the stock wheels with stock offset, something as wide as a 285/75/r16 will need trimming of the rearmost portion of the front wheel arches. Really, rubbing is usually a tire width issue, so if you want to go taller without going wider, I'd look into 255/85/16 tires.

Hmm, good to know...since in my case i would be running 275/70r16, do you think the extra ~.5" difference would give me enough clearance?

Gotta catch em on sale. I paid 900 for mine mounted at Discount Tire. They run a sale 100 off of 400 regularly, split your order into 2 for max benefit.

Wow, that's not a bad deal at all, have you used them? And yes, i'll be using the stock r16's. What size spacer would you recommend for the 275? .5-.75"?

That's really good info to keep in mind! I think in my case, i like the look of a slightly wider tire. So, I think judging by what you're saying I can pretty much rule out the 285's unless I want to do some in depth cutting/trimming?

My friend just put them on his F350. Super quiet and great on the mud and loose rock dirt roads around his cabin. I will be buying some 285/70/17's next month. There is a thread for these tires. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/packed-with-technology-falken-wildpeak-a-t3w.419869/ You may not need a spacer for 275's. There are quite a few members running them with out rubbing. I think it depends on the tire, even though they are "the same size" every manufacturer makes them differently.

That was a great thread, exactly what I was looking for! I think you may have just sold me on the falken's. Thanks for the info!! I'll be sure to post some pics when it's all said and done.

Awesome. That's what this should be, helpful, without stupid comments or snide remarks.
