Spotted this camper in Death Valley a few years back. I kick myself all the time that I didn't talk to the guy, ask to take a look inside and learn more about the build. It's a real beaut, reminds me of cedar strip canoes. I know it's a bit of a long shot, but has anyone spotted this guy around? Familiar with a builder who does campers like this? I've seen handbuilt wooden campers before, but not one this smooth and sleek.

That sure looks like a custom job from a boat builder.

that’s gotta weight a ton right? Looks awesome, not as a camper but as a boat or tiny house? Good luck with the search.

“Known internationally as "the Bible of canoe building," Canoecraft is back, and it's bigger and better than ever. The best-selling how-to guide has been completely revised and expanded, and master canoe builder Ted Moores again infuses the pages with the experience and wisdom acquired over almost three decades. His step-by-step instructions, generously illustrated with new photographs and diagrams and incorporated into an accessible fresh design, will allow even the beginner to create a reasonably priced classic. North America's leading builder of woodstrip/epoxy canoes, Moores is a longtime teacher of wooden-boat construction as well. With students who have ranged in age from 11 to 87, Moores has discovered that all have been motivated by the same dream: to build something beautiful and functional. Canoecraft is the road map to that dream. In it, Moores offers comprehensive instructions for the first-time builder and, with the second-time builder in mind, includes a larger variety of canoe plans -- five of which are brand-new. In this edition, each plan is presented as a traditional table of offsets. Moores has also added a series of builder's tips and new techniques and an entire chapter on carving a paddle, the perfect accompaniment to your handcrafted canoe. His message is straightforward: When good materials are used and simple steps performed with care, professional results are sure to follow. Whether your goal is to build a general-purpose recreational canoe, an efficient modern tripping canoe or a full-decked fast-cruising canoe with walnut veneer, Canoecraft can help you make it happen. AUTHOR: Ted Moores is a best-selling author. In 1972, Moores pioneered the woodstrip/epoxy boatbuilding system for canoes and, since then, has promoted the fine art of wooden-canoe and kayak construction. He is the author of Kayaks You Can Build.”

    That's some seriously impressive craftsmanship.

With all the extra work that went into it to keep those contours tight to the cab like that it really makes me wonder if he made a pass through from cab to camper. Would love to see more details.

Wow, that's some talent. And for those asking, no, it shouldn't be heavy at all. The strips used when building strip built canoes and kayaks are thin. The boats are built on a form or frame which is removed after the epoxy sets so you just have the weight of the wood, fiberglass cloth and epoxy.

Here's a good example of building a canoe:

That should be a light camper top as stated above.
I've built a few canoes and kayaks. Even my 17 foot stich and glue kayaks top out at around 43lbs.

Never thought of a camper top.
    That's beautiful!
