    Hello everyone, newbie here. Looking into buying a new 3rd gen Tacoma. Never owned a Toyota, been along time since had a truck and want one already. Car gets to beat up as a daily. Currently have Infiniti q50 RedSport 400 modified. If I did purchase one it wouldn’t stay stock for long at all, maybe few days lol. Do these trucks hold up with modifications to make them faster, nothing crazy just intake and exhaust with a tune. I’ve heard there’s a delay on factory ecu with the shifts. Got my eyes on a 2022 Sport 4x4 with 10,000k.

    Take a spin around the forum. 3rd gens are trash and we all hate them. Check the new Ranger forum for some honest opinions about the Tacoma.

    If you are;
    Larger or tall person, pass.
    Wanting to tow something semi heavy, pass.
    Drive a taco and note the tranny shifting hunting up and down.
    Note the uncomfortable seating position on non pro trim models.
    Sagging crappy rear leafs go negative arch almost from the factory.
    Some balk at rear drum brakes.
    Rear end howl noise at 50-70 range.
    Possible timing cover leaks STILL on this old engine model.
    Nit picking but you cant see the oil level on the dipstick with newer oil.
    PITA trans fluid maint bc no dipstick.
    Rather annoying cartridge oil filter in a plastic housing.
    Rather outdated audio system that does not crank up the sound.
    BUT aside from that, they hold their value, do not break down and the asthetic looks are top shelf.

    Test drive one. A long test drive if you don’t want buyers remorse (since your current ride is an infinity and modified ) Take it to the freeway and the way to work, routes you drive daily. That way you get informed decision. With that said, I still love my 2017 off road . It has the kdmax tune though.

    I’m going to be unpopular here and say this is probably not the vehicle for you. The Tacoma is not a fast vehicle.

    I’m also into fast vehicles. If you want to keep that “fast car” don’t bother upgrading the Tacoma. Buy a second car that’s actually fast. That’s what I did.

    Intakes and exhaust do nothing for these truck, waste of money. Oem intake is already cold air intake. Noise is all they'll do for it. Tune will help a bit. Mostly shifting, and throttle response, a bit of hp.
