You can find some really good deals on slightly used ones most have only been towed on highways. There’s a guy in the TM FB page selling a ‘16 like we have for around $10k with extras

Chalet A-Frame. Been towing this since 2009; first with my '02 4cyl 5sp, now with my '16 TRD OFF ROAD. About 10K miles. All over the western USA. Knocks my mileage down 2-4 might depending on terrain.

we looked at several different models with that same bunkhouse floor plan, however every single camper was a complete piece of shit. The fit and finish of everything was terrible. It was shocking to see the poor quality control for a small camper costing $15k+

I honestly had a hard time believing it too. Every part and piece is made and assembled as cheap as possible and it shows. And yet people keep buying them despite the poor quality and in record numbers... then again it’s basically impossible to build light, cheap, and quality; pick two. Since there’s really only two companies, Thor and Forest River, cheap won.

Nice setup. That is a great grill, btw. I bought that grill for two of my friends, it burns super hot. Honestly, your setup is basically, what I am looking at. I have actually, been designing a trailer for months now. Still, just looking for best, most economical unit to fit my needs.

I will probably only use it 15, max times a year. I like cooking, as much as camping. I am the main cook for an off-road race team, so, even if, and probably carrying external grills, a light duty kitchen would be appreciated. What I mean, is that a built in kitchen, would not be enough for me, for my purpose. I need a smoker, and two other types of grills.

I have the slightly bigger brother to yours:

    https://www.jayco.com/products/travel-trailers/2020-jay-flight-slx-7/195rb/

JAYCO JAY FLIGHT SLX7 195 RBW

Similar in size and capacity to yours minus the slide out.

    20200315_143329.jpg

It does great and I have lightly modified it with some toys and improvements. Jayco isn't perfect but it's a good trailer and I bought it new this past November for $12.5k. My Taco pulls it easily and I'm looking forward to many years of fun with it!!!

That is one of the aspects we really enjoy about the little camper. All shown in the pictures is folded up in a short amount of time and stored in the camper. When we want to go camping we literally o my worry about food and clothes

With you, brother. Camping should not be luxurious, nor complicated. It’s not the point.

Mine is fantastic. Even my wife was surprised how good it is. The reason I went with Jayco is because of their roof design, offroad capabilities, simplistic design and warranty. Almost all manufacturing of these travel trailers builds each one out in 6-8hrs. The other one I looked at was the Winnebago mini

I seriously considered the a-frames for a minute. Everyone I talk to who owns them loves them. They take less than 1/4 of the time to pitch compared against my pop-up. Every trailer design has a trade-off, a couple of positives with a bunch of negatives attached; the compromise of the A-frame is that they have the smallest interior in their weight class. Former teardrop owners will think its a palace though.

My popup by contrast has an interior that is comically huge compared to what it looks like outside, but at the cost of 30-35 minutes from unhitching to making the bed. Insulation against temperature is also a LOL. Still, 360 uninterrupted views, and the old-school rattle of canvas against the breeze puts my ass right to sleep. If I had to buy one tomorrow I'd probably still debate between a-frame or tent trailer. Teardrops are awesome, cleverly designed little trailers, but they dont really mesh with my style.

The problem with hybrids or soft sided pop outs is they are not allowed in certain US parks (example parts of Yellowstone) due to bears, although those areas are small in number. Other than than that and they are less insulated they are very cool and easy to tow

I considered that too. Those sites are so few in number that I havent had issue with it. There is always public land nearby that has fewer restrictions.

Indeed. If I didn’t have a child I would have definitely gone smaller and lighter.

I have owned travel trailers, Pop up, A Frames and now own a teardrop. My camper choice has changed over the years based on use and needs.
I like camping and the outdoor experience, it's fun to have a small camper that I can tow anywhere. I still love backpacking/hiking, sleeping in a tent or using my Ridgerunner hammock.
