Cool. You'll be good. I like Reese and Curt brands since they've been around for decades.

I just want to be comfortable with driving this trailer, since I have only towed tent trailers around which is easy enough. I know travel trailers are a bit different.

Seriously, don't overlook the Andersen. It's the easiest WDH to work with. Chains and elastomers are so much lighter/quieter than giant spring bars.

I looked into them, they are expensive as hell even used.

Don't overthink it. With attentiveness and safe driving you should be golden. For the trailer you discussed you don't even need a WDH so any of the reputable brands are gonna work for your needs.

You have a very capable tow vehicle for the trailer's size.

If it were me.. I'd make sure the trailer bearings have been recently greased and the axle spindles have been inspected since you're talking about buying an 8+ year old TT.

These things are expensive... for less than an arm you can get one of these for around $6,000...
We paid less for ours 3 years ago like $5,000... but it's just enough for the little wife and myself.
We've done many small trips in it and we did a 16-day trip to YellowStone a few years back, had
the time of my life and can't wait to do something similar again.

It's completely empty inside so you get to trick it out how you want it ..

Thanks for sharing. I have dreams of something like this but need to get it past my wife, first!

This one is great. I wonder what it starts at in terms of price. I also noticed this: "Current lead time on the XT-12 is 2nd quarter 2022." Not a deal breaker.

I am also looking at the Opus and the new Airstream Basecamp:

If you got cash for a basecamp you should also take a look at ESCAPE out of our friends to the North.
They make a real good product for about $20k less.

    Thank you !

I just looked ... very nice product ... will look more carefully at them. Not an immediate buyer here but have my eye on one. I was in a Basecamp and it was really nice, especially the new one with the lift and better off road tires. I don't need a lot of space ... but then I start looking at those longer and bigger Airstreams and I lose focus ... ;)

$35k. IF that price is for the XT-12 I agree as that model appears to be tricked out.

.. or if you don't need to take your TT bouldering.. buy a Casita 17' for $25k and spend a few thousand improving ground clearance, adding aluminum skids and relocating the low hanging plumbing.

I've been lusting after an Opus for a few years. After spotting this conquerer in the wild last year and talking to the owners I briefly had dirty thoughts about that one too.

But then I realize I could buy my cheapass trailer 4-5 times over before approaching the base price of a conqueror or a new Bambi, maybe only 2-3 times over before approaching an Opus 4. That's hard to justify.

Yea those Airstreams are timeless - as are the payments LOL - but if you got the cash go for it -

Me, I'm a cheap-bastard ... or rather not very well healed. I put 2 kids through college debt free so that's where my money went...
Couple that with a wedding and I'm so broke I can't pay attention ..

The Runaway Campers have an off-road model ( Venturist ) which starts at about $10,500 and tricked out would run you about $12,000 -
A Third of the price of the Boreas -

You raise a good point, for sure! I am more focused on the quality of the build. I don't mind the price. Spent some time with the Basecamp and that thing is well built. I have yet to see the Opus in person and I really want to see it. But no one in NY has them. We can't have nice things, apparently. I want something rock solid.

My biggest problem is that I have not seen one yet! We have no dealers anywhere near me in NY! Argh. I do understand your point, though. My problem is I want to see everything before I pull the trigger. Will do a trip out West and maybe stop in a few places to really get a good look at them. What a good discussion here ... appreciate all of the options to think through ...

Tacoma World is fabulous - weed out a few jerk-answers ( we all have our moments ) and for the most part you get great
info here. I peeped at this site for weeks before pulling the trigger on my SR5. Just plain-out good information.

    Mad respect for you!

Cash is not my problem. Time and understanding is. First, I want to find the right trailer. I don't need a moving house -- just a rock solid camper, easy to tow with a decent place to sleep (doesn't have to be fancy), a place to pee and a simple camp kitchen (camp kitchen is optional since I have that gear). Then I wonder if the Tacoma will be good pulling that trailer or I need to get a Tundra?

I am going to look more closely at the Runaway Campers, though. Thank you! I appreciate that.

Shouldnt have troubles with either camper.

Opus has the same weight characteristics and wind profile as mine, with the exception that my trailer's max weight is capped at 3500 pounds vs their 3800 and change. I usually get 13-16 mpg highway depending on headwind and bed cargo, which isn't terrible. Ive never had a want for more power.

Ive seen reviews on TW about the basecamp, no one reports issues with that one either.
