    hey all,

I am looking to add smartphone mirroring to my 2018 Tacoma while keeping the factory Backup camera and GPS Navigation features. I have seen the beat sonic and the HAI harness here on the forums. What is everyones experience and can what I am doing be done? Mainly the Smartphone mirroring would be so my wife can watch Netflix when we take road trips.

Whatever I learn from you guys
It works ok. I have the beat sonic and only used once. Haha, PM me and I’ll sell it to you :) the resolution on the Tacoma head unit isn’t that great. My wife prefers a basic IPad that is attached via a Ram Mount.

I also have the beat sonic kit and i like it. Bit of a gimick in my opinion thought it was all the rage and find myself rarely useing it unless im waiting for long periods of time. It does not chnage any settings or functionality of the headunit. It adds an extra icon on the app screen for mirroring. Click audio choose video(instead of bluetooth or am/fm etc) and the screen goes to mirroring.

Like above the resolution isnt the greatest but it is clear and i can watch netflix etc no problem. It would be like watching on an older tube tv. (As far as quality). I also found if i play music through it the system gets rather louder than on bt or aux connection.

Yes, whatever you see on your phone you see on the head unit. I will warn you guys that it also has a slight delay in sound/view which gets annoying when watching something (youtube, netflix, games, etc)

So which one is better? the HAI or the other one? I want this to be as original or factory as possible. Without altering anything. I Noticed the beat sonic had a mode switch that almost made it look like if you have mirroring turned on it disables the Maps or backup camera but if you have it off, you cant mirror

Just curious as to why. Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze are all better navigation tools than the static maps built into Entune. If you’re worried about data usage, don’t be. Navigation apps use very little data.

Cool, thanks. I do too, but can’t stand the poor navigation.

The switch just makes it so uou can make changes in settings maps etc while driving instead of being locked out. I also dont have an issue with sound/video not lining up. May be my hdmi cord or phone.

I have an HAI harness I’ll sell you if that’s the route you’re gonna go. I wanted mirroring and a front camera, but I think I’m going to go with a new head unit instead. $50 shipped and it’s yours.
