    Hey guys,

I'm very interested in this tacoma and would to hear what you guys think.

    https://www.andersonwebertoyota.com...a-Tacoma-25f29b370a0d0cc72273469cd23cd70a.htm

For sale is a 2009 Tacoma with 241K miles, 1 owner, and is in extremely good condition. However, upon inspection the dealer offered to replace the frame for free (which I thought is really weird) for the purchase price of the vehicle at $13,200.

Please let me know your thoughts!

    Thank you!

There is a frame warranty campaign going on where Toyota will replace frames in trucks for 12 years since the vehicle first in service date, if there is a rust hole found in the frame.

So the dealer isn’t offering anything Toyota isn’t aren’t already obligated to do assuming you do have a hole. Which you certainly could.

You could try to buy the truck as-is and try for a better price and then take it to any dealer you want and get an inspection. If passed Toyota will cover full replacement and give you a loaner vehicle.

So the price they are offering can’t be taken as extra special. Ask for lower and mention that you can get the frame replaced anywhere. For 2009 you have until sometime in 2021.

Try offering $10000. I paid about that for mine about a year ago - TRD 2008 OR with tow package, 196k miles.

There are certain criteria to qualify for a frame replacement.
If yours qualifies NOW, I’d do it NOW while the offer is on the table.

There is a slight risk, that a different dealership may not pass the frame for replacement.

I guess what I’m saying is, I’d take a frame replacement if it is offered.
I wouldn’t wait and have it inspect AFTER I bought the truck.

This makes sense, thank you for your response. I tried talking them down before the whole frame warranty/replacement stuff got found and they only came down from 13,900 to 13,200. Do you think it's worth trying to get this cheaper? or is 13,200 a fair price for this vehicle?

    I personally think that’s a high price.
That’s a lot of miles, and if the frame needs replacement, I am betting a lot of the other hardware is rusted and in need of repair.

I’d personally pass on it, but I live in the south.
Us Southern folk are scared of rust.

I wouldn't pay over $10k, theres a risk even at that price unless a warranty deal is with it

That’s a similar level of rust as mine. I think they are asking too much for 241k miles. Again, the frame replacement offer shouldn’t be something you have to pay a premium for! It’s already free assuming you qualify. I just had my frame replaced.

But then again, if a rusty 09 with 200k+ miles goes for that much, I guess that’s good news for me if I need to sell it. I could ask for $14-15.

I paid $12K for my '07 with 225K on it a few months ago, which I thought was a fair deal given how absurdly high the used prices are out west, plus it's a one owner lifelong southwest truck with no rust in really great shape and a good service history. It also has a nice Snugtop shell which spared me from needing to buy one if I bought a truck without one.
I saw some crazy prices around the country when shopping on and off over the last couple years, so the price for that '09 doesn't surprise me, but you gotta be careful with the rusty ones.

This is one time that I would pass based on miles and not rust. But unfortunately, rust will play a major part in my usage of cursive vocabulary in what would usually be simple routine tasks of replacement of those worn OEM shocks.

Yeah, these are good engines but that is a lot of miles if it's not a number you've personally put on it. The mileage would scare me.

Too much $$$ for an 11 year old vehicle with 241000 miles and needs a frame replacement. If you like spending your time working on vehicles and dumping $$$ Into it as things fail then go for it. 241000 miles I’d run away from that. Be patient and look for something with less miles.

I paid 13,900 for my 09 dcsb TRD OR with 126k 1 owner all service records with a brand new frame just installed and new steering rack at the same time. That price seems extremely high to me, but love knowing they hold their value that well!

I have to agree with the "way too high" crowd. I know I got a good deal but, last Feb. I got a 2010 SR5 V6 4X4 auto w/matching cap with 79k miles for 14K ( in PA). These trucks are strong but that price is way too high.

Just because the dealerships have a certain asking price that doesn’t mean the vehicle is worth it. Their asking price isn’t the vehicle’s value, it’s what people will pay.
Unless it’s a classic car nothing with 240,000 miles is worth $13,000.00.
Don’t pay that price for that truck.

Dealerships seem to be asking a premium for used vehicles due to the whole COVID thing imo.

A lot of 3rd gens are going for pretty big money (like 30-36k used with 20,000-30,000 miles) And it seems like the 2.5 gens are still stagnating around $20,000-$25,000 with nearly 100k miles

Right now is probably not the best time to buy a used vehicle. And at $13,200 with damn near 250k that seems like a lot, I probably would pay no more than $10k.

Alternatively the frame is the weakest point of the Tacoma, and if you get a brand new one for free, plus it’s a one owner vehicle there are some perks to that.

Do you need a Tacoma right now, or can you wait? I wonder what they gave him on trade for that...
