I have a lead on a 2nd gen Tacoma with low miles ~45k that has been on blocks in a garage since October. It was taken out once during that time for a 10 mile drive. After purchasing I will need to get it home ~120 miles and then would like to take it on a road trip in short order. Hoses and belts all look good. I will check all fluids for levels and overall condition, but are there any fluids you would say without a doubt replace right away, or any other input about how to make sure it comes out of storage successfully?

    Much appreciated.

9 months is nothing. Fire a Jerry can of high octane gas in there and Trickle charge the battery then fire it up!

Only thing I’d be concerned about is the battery. Just replace it and go on your merry way.

Have a look at the tires for sidewall cracks and drying out.

9 months? Sounds like and impound or repo. Maybe even a drug mule with hidden compartments, don't get stopped

In addition to the issues mentioned....

If it is in an area with big temperature changes I would be a little concerned with the fuel left in the tank. It can absorb moisture during the temperature fluctuations, then the wet fuel causes corrosion in tank, and fuel pump.

I would drain the tank as much as possible, then fill it with fresh fuel.

It may not be an issue, but its possible.

Mine sat in a storage unit for 15 months while I was in Iraq. Fired right up when I got home.

Run some injector cleaner through it, modern (read that’s a ethanol) gas starts to turn to jelly after 3 months.

9 months is nothing assuming it has at least been under carport. Hopefully the battery was disconnected too. Worse case scenario is you might need a battery... assuming the truck was in ok shape before it should be good to go.

Thanks for all the info. We tried to make deal several months back with a partial trade for mine, but couldn't get to terms. He eventually got busy let his CL add lapse for a few months then put it back up last month, so its just been sitting. I got a buyer for my 1st gen lined up so hoping to drop down and pick it up this weekend. He recently replaced the battery so should be good there.

Make sure to check and change fluids. Oil may be gunky.
