I would personally check back in 2018. They are still working out some bugs with the transmission (auto) and the rear axle.

After 16K in mine, I just told a friend that I could not honestly recommend the 3rd gen.

I hate it when somebody ask should I do it yes or no. Make up your own mind. The best you can hope for asking that question is 50% yes and 50% no. Might as well ask people if they approve of your girlfriend yes or no.

Like the majority Tacoma owners do. ;) :) :p

I can't even remember the last time I have ever seen a Tacoma actually hauling anything....maybe if we were in a 3rd World country, maybe...

masond - If you haven't already noticed, the third gen forums on tacomaworld.com are a cluster. There is a vocal minority on both extremes, almost to the extent of trolling. There are useful bits of information scattered in piles of smelly shit. Have fun, and don't take anything too personally, or as gospel.

That thing isn't swatting all not that bad...oh, back when Toyota used to make real trucks *sigh*.

Doesn't the Ridgeline have a better payload than a DCSB Taco? 1588# to the Yota's 1120#....hey wait a minute!!! :D

And you raise a good point about trolls...I'm the opposite. I love Toyota. As a kid, we had a 1970 (?) Land Cruiser (the one that looked like a jeep). It wasn't a daily driver, but we had it for like 20 years or something. Loved it. So, I'm partial to Toyota.

I had a 2014 TRD Sport, and loved that too. I swore I'd never sell it, but then the TRD PRO came out. I don't notice all the 3rd Gen "issues" I read about on here. Not saying they don't exist, but I'm skeptical. Maybe they'll show up down the road? My only complaints about 3rd Gen TRD PRO is that I didn't need all Entune apps...my '14 didn't have navi.

I love my '17 Pro. It is a big upgrade over my 2nd Gen. I guess it came with the TSB for the transmission because I think it drives fine. I haven't off-roaded in it yet...won't happen until next Summer. I haven't heard the squeaks or other noises. The rear leaf springs on my 2nd gen squeaked slightly, but never enough to complain about. I mean, it's a truck not a Cadillac. I expect it to be a truck. That is what I bought. And I whole-heartedly recommend the '17 Toyota Tacoma.

Long time Toyota owner here, 25+ years....love Toyota, but do believe they have lost their way. Gone is the basic little truck that could run seemingly forever. Now they have too much fluff. Sure wish they would get back to their roots. Yeah, a lot of people like their luxury gee-gaws...but for us simple guys, we don't even get the option of a super basic stripped down truck. The guys who are going to actually use it as a truck. I want 30 mpg, and 2000 lbs payload, and not much else other than 4WD.

Be nice if they had great payloads and stellar gas mileage...for the money they are commanding now-a-days. Think you're betting off buying a fullsize from the Big 3.

I am on my second third gen

My 16 TRD OR 6MT had the moonroof
    3800 trouble free miles

My 17 PRO 932 miles 6MT love it. Miss the moonroof but I like the exclusivity since it is such a boxer dropper for the bros :)

Yep...I am using the payload of the Taco DCSB vs the Ridgline since they are basically the same body style. And the DCSB Yota is the most popular.

Hardly anyone buys the SR 2WD ACLB Tacoma, which has the highest payload of 1620. Which would the one you would buy if you really wanted to use it as an actual truck...but most Tacoma owners don't. ;) :D

I'd say drive one and make the decision based on that.

Looking through forums too much is just going to make you second guess forever (Trust me, I've done it). No vehicle is going to be perfectly reliable all of the time. You may get one and never have a single issue or it could be quite the opposite. If you love this truck more than any others, just pull the trigger. You'll have a warranty if needed.

I personally love the look of these trucks and have been going back and fourth on getting one. We'll all have our doubts based on different things, but at the end of the day, none of that matters. Just buy the truck you like the best and you'll be happy.
