Looking to get a used or perhaps new tacoma. Newb to the Tacos, so please be easy on me. Is the 2012 and newer consdiered a 2nd gen or 3rd gen tacoma or more like a 2.5. Also I was looking into getting a double cab 4x4 long bed however would really want the locking rear diff and they offer that in the short bed option only. Is the locking rear something I can installed at the dealer new and neogiated into the price. Or should I just go about getting aftermarket. And if aftermarket is way to go what do yall recommend. Thanks for yalls input. If this has been answered already please forgive me. I already tried the search function and couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

Starting over with a new GMC AT4 Satin Steel Metallic Softopper, Bilstein 5100's @ 1.75 in the front, TSB Rear, 17x8.5 Lvl 8 Guardians, 265/70-17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Scooped, Anytime fog mod, Osram Nightbreakers, LED Interior lights, Debadged, Painted valance, Removed rear head rests, De-flapped, Hidden Hitch installed, Weather Techs, Flyzeye'd A/W/A, Cover Kings.
Aye, the DCLB only comes as an SR5 or TRD Sport. The locker only comes on the TRD Off Road models which are only shortbed. I'm not sure, but highly doubt, a dealer would install a locker on the TRD Sport for you (different rear ends on the OR/Sport) ... even if they did you would get hosed. Go after market.

Unless you are in love with all of the TRD Sport options: Stereo, Scoop, Color matching bumpers, grill, mirrors and door handles, little better seats, then I would suggest you grab an SR5 and mod it to your desire. (There are some other perks in the TRD over an SR5: bed outlet, suspension)

    Good luck!

EDIT: My truck is the SR5 with some of the Sport addons. I bought it used with 14k miles on it and I saved well over $5k from the TRD models. I've spent $2,500-$3k on mods and $1,200 of that was wheels and tires which I would have done on the TRD as well.

Buy a sport long bed and then buy an ARB air locker for the rear! It is much easier to install and a lot stronger.

Welcome and good luck finding the truck you are looking for! This is my first Tacoma. I have had it for about 4 months and I love driving it. I went with the DCSB Offroad and have no "regerts".
