    Hello all,

I am looking to buy a new Tacoma and have done my research but looking for advice from a forum. Right now I am thinking of either SR5 or TRD Sport. I want the V6, 4x4 and double cab. I don't really need all the bells and whistles, more of a minimalist. I won't be trading in a vehicle either. I would want out the door for most 32K. I live in the Annapolis Region.

    A couple questions:
Is the extra 4 or 5 grand worth it for the TRD Sport?
The dealer ship is telling me the lowest they will go on a SR5 (w/ V6, 4x4, and double cab) is around 32-33k, is this correct?
He also mentioned that if I find a lower deal they would match it, anyone know where a good place to look would be?

Thank you all for your time! I can't wait to become a part of the community!!

I am taking delivery of a 2016 DCSB 4x4 V6 SR tonight, optional wheels, convenience package, etc. I am paying $28,500, not contingent on a trade.

You can do better that your qoute on the SR5 for sure.

Your location will be the greatest impact, plus keep in mind the 17's are coming out soon so dealers want to get rid of the 16s

I got my TRD Sport for $31,100, but it's only 4x2. Your quote still sounds a bit high for a SR5, even with 4x4, but it varies by region.

I thought the TRD was worth it but that's mostly because I wanted things like push button start, unlock/lock without ever taking keys out of pocket or bag, qi charging, nicer head unit with Nav, etc.

If none of that matters to you, you don't lose much going down to the SR5.

Don't get me wrong but I would really love all of that but it's not a deal breaker. I don't want to spend more than 32 or 33K but would rather have the TRD Sport but seems all I can find start at 36k (w/ 4x4 & double cab). Just trying to figure out if its realistic or I should just settle for the SR5.

    Thank you for the advice!!

Just recently bought from Koons of Annapolis but also bought from Browns Toyota of Glen Burnie in 2013. I had solid buying experiences from both. Maybe try working with both to get the price down.

Are you shopping at Koons in Annapolis. From when i bought my truck about 45 days ago, they were not wanting to negotiate on the price at all. I got up and left, the service i got there i didn't really care for. I walked around and looked at trucks by myself for about 30 min, went in stood in the showroom for about another 15 minuets before any one said hello, then another 10 before a salesperson actually decided to help me.

Now, the dealership I ended up buying from I wouldn't recommend either, because the after sale issues have been a nightmare. It took 4 visits back to the dealership for signing new paperwork before I finally said screw it and got my own financing.... Which will be the way I go from now on.

I ended up with the SR5 4x2. No options, as I came from a Camry that had all the options of which I used 2. The push button start/proximity unlock. Like you though, its a nice gimmick but not needed. Then the upgraded head unit, which was nice and having entune integrated with my phone so I could use Pandora, iheart radio, etc... And I used it for all of a day. Then moved to Maryland 2 months later, and my company gave me an iPhone which would never work correctly with the entune app.... So, another additional expense that went down the drain.

I have a base SR5, that I will be upgrading the entire stereo system on, as the stock one is not very good. From what Ive heard the JBL 7" and the non JBL 7" still are not good.... So, for the added money, people are still yanking them out and upgrading.

I recently went to Koons in Annapolis. They didn't seem very willing to work with me on the price at all, "since they can't keep them on the lot". Which may be true, but I was hoping for a little more of a conversation.

I think there's some truth to that. They worked with me on mine on Memorial Day but I've been back there 3 or 4 times and it seems like the Tacomas fly like hot cakes. My truck was actually a dealer swap from another dealer becsuse they didn't have it in stock. Koons Tysons Corner has a much bigger inventory if you're interested.

Keep in mind you should still get the $1000 rebate as long as you show them your DD214.

If all possible, please read the problem threads on the 3rd gen, and perhaps wait for the 2017 models in a couple of months.

The following post sums it up well:

Get the SR5. The sport offers nothing useful for offroad that the SR5 doesn't already have

I wish I could hold out until 2017 but need to get something really soon, also finally have the wife on board with the purchase! haha.

Thank you all for the advice, I am leaning more towards the SR5.

I got my 4x4 SR5 DCSB with bed cover, Etune, Tow Package, upgraded alloy wheels and step bars for just north of $33K before TTL. Sticker was just shy of $36K. Could I have gotten a better deal, probably. However it was in my budget and I didn't feel the need to go haggle all over my city to save another grand or so.

I absolutely love the truck and am very pleased with the way it performs. I've got just over 1000 miles on it now and it runs great in the city and on the highway. I've got probably 100 miles of off road on it and it performed great for me. I'm very pleased with my Taco and will be hanging onto it for awhile. Don't be thrown off by the transmission horror stories you'll be reading here. Its kind of like the news, out of the 10% of bad things, they report on 90% of them. Good luck.

When I bought my SR5, I was after a TRD OR. After looking at the differences and price, I settled on the SR5. Mainly because I did not want the moon roof. I live in the Northwest and holes in roofs will leak at some point. I'm quite pleased with the SR5. I've not experienced the problems with transmission, hood, or weird noises. I did get curious at about 3K miles and decided to check my tranny fluid level, which I found about a quart low. My truck shifts quite well, cruises nicely on the highway at 65-70 in 6th gear and pulls down about 25 mpg at those speeds. If I could do it again, I would probably seek out a manual transmission, but they are not available in the SR5, so would have to look at a TRD. Unless you are really into gadgets, just pass on the tech package and save yourself about $3500.

Don`t believe everything that you read on the internet and especially everything that you read on here that comes from mainly kids that own 2nd Gens that have nothing more to do than play on the internet.

Buy what you want and suits your needs.
