Looking to buy a Tacoma for under 16k

Hi everybody,

I'm dead set on owning a tacoma. Need to keep it below 16k.

I don't really have a preference on 1st gen vs 2nd gen body styles, if anything I'm leaning towards 1st gen.

Within my budget it looks like I'm in the market for an 04 or 05 with around 100k miles on it, but would be a jackpot if I found something with <100k. I want a 4x4, manual transmission.

I will mostly just be commuting, no hardcore 4x4 stuff other than occasional dirt roads, camping trip type stuff.
What is your take on 4 cyl vs 6 cyl?

Take an '04 vs '05…in your experience, what would be the better economical choice? Will an '04 hold up better?

Welcome to the forum. 1st gen would be the 04 and older but for 1st gens, I would look at 01 and older as they have the cable throttle that I like. $16K is a healthy budget for a 1st gen. I bought a couple of 1st gen both with less than 100K 4x4 manual tranny and if I remember correctly, one was $13K with about 90K miles and another for $15K with 55K miles. They are out there but can be difficult to find. One was from Vegas and the other from San Diego.
