I think the knock thing is just brand loyalty. I've owned both Canon and Nikon stuff. I shoot Canon because that's the lenses and accessories I have. Between the two brands, you cannot go wrong. I will tell you that Canon and Nikon are almost opposite in the way their controls work and that makes a difference to some folks. They also feel different in your hand.

These are just a few reasons I suggest going to a retail store and trying them out.

if you dont wanna spend too much money, get their new 55-300mm

or get rid of the kit 18-55mm and buy the 18-200mm

i may be wrong, and correct me if i am, but no that is not true.

But every lens that nikon made from like 1972 til now are interchangeable with every camera body they make. let it be from the F6, to the D3000, to the D3x.

Didn't Ken just have a post about how Nikon shot themselves in the foot recently with lens compatibility? I can't find it anymore. I know that with the release of the FX cameras, you lose some focus or something if you use DX lenses.

    Just gettin' technicaly :p

DX is just a lens designed specifically for a crop body. If you do use a DX lens on a full frame body, you lose some of the image area--and that's all. It's not a focus issue.

Canon did the same thing with EF-S lenses. And you cannot use those on all bodies.

In general, DX and EF-S was more marketing than anything else.

    More of a non-issue.

    this.

you CAN *FIT* a DX lens on an FX body (on nikon) but you have to use it in DX crop mode. (so it defeats the purpose of having a FX camera.

but with canon (from my experience) you cant fit EF-S lenses with a plastic bayonet on their 5DMk.2?
hopefully someone that shoots canon will chime in for that because ive always wondered

Here's a fairly up to date list of EF-S compatible bodies.

The short answer is no. Can't use your EF-S with the 5DmkII. I really wish you could because the 10-22 is a great lens--it lives on an IR converted Rebel body these days.

Check out Ken Rockwell's site- He does very in depth reviews of mostly Nikon products and lenses but also covers other major brands. Tons of information!!

Sorry- I just read the rest of the posts and found out this is repeat info!!
