First, it's called a warranty extension. Calling it a recall at the dealer, won't get you very far. "We looked up your VIN number and there's no open recalls."

The warranty extension is 100% transferable. It follows the truck. Not the owner. At this point, the warranty extension is covered exactly 12 years from the date of 1st use, and not 1 day longer. The "date of 1st use" is the date that it was originally sold new off the dealers lot.

As far as if alterations could cause the frame replacement to be denied, I haven't seen anyone mention anything here on TW. The only thing I have seen is if the frame crossmember has been cut out and a drop bracket lift installed, Toyota won't reinstall the lift.

DISCLAIMER: Do your own research to find out if any alterations could void the warranty extension.

I guess it wouldn't be wise for Toyota to deny trucks that were modified.

That would alienate some of their most loyal fans, I believe.

Um, I don't think Toyota really puts that much caring thought into it. You have to keep in mind, that Toyota is only replacing frames because the courts made them do it. That's why Toyota has no sympathy for those that missed the cutoff date. "Sorry, we did what the court ordered settlement made us do".

    True,

at the end of the day they are only doing what they've been told to do.

And will probably do nothing more.

hey staggs, u mention its a RWD then ask about transfer case/tires. If its RWD I dont think u gots a transfer case to worry about. Maybe I missed something (Highly likely). and its too much money.

A lot of people wouldn’t buy a used truck with a plow unless it was a great deal. You don’t know if the plow driver knew what he was doing, or beat it or what. Just saying.

Yes I did originally want a RWD for the simplicity but I wouldn't be opposed to it if it were in better condition that a similar RWD and a good deal.

    Thanks.

That was my thinking. I dont plow and a plow in NH must have been used extensively.

I must say I am surprised at the prices of used for Tacomas.

I guess many just opt to buy new.

I guess I'm just going to keep looking and pounce on the first good deal with a replaced frame I see.

I'd hold out for a 4x4, or else you'll find yourself regretting getting a 2wd, especially if you're looking to use it in snowy conditions.

That was my experience too. You’re gonna find they do hold a lot of their value. A basic SR DC 2WD was all I needed. I scoured Craigslist, and traveled all over my state to see a couple used Tacomas at Toyota dealers. What I saw was either overkill for my needs, had too many miles for the price, or had frame rust. In the end I wound up buying new due to a end of year rebate and a dealer that would discount a new SR $3K. The small difference in price wasn’t worth it to me to buy used.

Maybe just bite the bullet and look for a new basic SR ?

    A thought/question on 2WD for Staggs...
I’ve had a couple 2WD pickups through the years. Yes, they were not good in the snow unless you put some decent weight in the back. But wouldn’t a modern truck’s traction control help a lot to make that better? I bought a 2018 2WD and although we didn’t get tons of snow last winter, we did get a couple storms. I just used a light touch on the gas pedal and I never got stuck and never fishtailed or anything.

What do you 2WD guys think about that? Did you get through the snow OK?

That is about a 6k truck. Biggest issue would be the frame. If it's been replaced. Great. If not the deadline has most likely passed. Biggest issue is around the cat.

Great engine although it has a plastic coolant bypass pipe which may or may not leak. Valve cover gaskets alsp go around 100k. Easy cheap fix if you wrench.

If you are driving flat lands snow tires and sand will get you where ever you need to go.

The one he is looking at has an open differiential. It's fine in the snow if you have good tires and a little weight and don't drive big hills
