I'm looking to buy the parts needed to take my axle out and plug the holes and drive in 2wd. So I need the inner stub, or tripod cup, and also the outer stub, or CV cup. Can be beat up, destroyed on the inside, aftermarket, etc. I will not be using these long term. I need to send my axles in, and need to drive in the meantime. As long as an axle nut will thread on and it will engage the splines, it will work for me.

I would settle for someone's beatup or broken axle and start finding someone with a press or the ability to cut it apart, but really looking for that person who has a press and has taken apart several axles for parts and has junk spares around... sell me an inner and outer!

for the record, I've already called CVJ and no help there. This is what I'm looking for:

    Thanks in advance.

You can get some super cheap ones off partsgeek for like 50 bucks an axle or a little bit better ones from trq for about 100 each. I would probably just get the super cheap ones since they will only be in there a minute then just keep them in case you ever need to pull your oems again. You could also sell them after for like half price I’m sure someone local would grab them for 50 bucks. By the time you buy the stubs and pay for shipping it’s will probably cost you more then 50 anyway so you will break even either way.

Hmm... I think you might be right. I have a reason to want the stubs separately, but perhaps the right way to go is get a brand new el-cheap-o axle complete and then just cut it apart. Or install it complete for now for my purposes of plugging - then cut apart or press apart later. I wasn't really willing to do that with the cost of junkyard OEM axles, but for something that is $50 or less it might make sense. Thanks for the suggestion.

I went ahead and ordered a cheap axle from rockauto. Let's hope it bolts in, dimensionally correct. Also realized I can cut the axle and get the CV joint apart without using a press, which is only needed if you intend to re-assemble with a different axle, i.e. for long travel. So I might just sell it to someone that wants a trail spare, or cut it apart and use the parts for my own spares.

    Thanks for the help
