I currently have a 2017 JKU Rubicon. I love it. I only have 7500 miles on it as of writing this. Recently we have decided to buy a 18 foot open bow boat. The tow capacity on the JKUR is only 3500lbs which is ridiculous. So I have been looking at the Tacoma (I had a 2006 a long time ago) as my new vehicle. When I bought my 2006 it was an SR5 auto. I had it 3 months and sold it due to the transmission feeling like it was torque braking me.. drove me crazy! I then bought a 2006 TRD 6 speed. I am not in the mode for a manual so my question is, does the transmission feel the same? I am going to test drive on this weekend but I test drove the SR5 and didn't notice it until I owned it..

    Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum. Many here complain about the auto on the Tacoma so test drive the crap out of it before you decide. I’ve had mine for a year and don’t have any issues. Good luck.

Oh ok. Yikes, seems that it's the same issue maybe if people are complaining. dang it!!! I don't want to have to buy a Colorado. Tundra is too big and Nissan Frontier is a dinosaur.

Just test drive man. Then go back next week and test drive another one. Then next week do the same. Make sure it fits your needs. If others would have done this then there would be a lot less complaining.

Tacomas are like women. Each one is different and unique with their own set of problems

Trucks don't vary. The expectations of people do.

true but i will say that if someone drove that SR5 they would agree with me. It was very pronounced. I'll ask if they will do an overnight. That is becoming rare these days but you never know.

You guys are having way too much fun comparing Tacos to women.

    ...

Let me join in. What's the difference between your truck and your girl?

You can ride both, but only one of them can ride you back.

If the Dealer believes you are a serious they will give you an overnight test drive, my Dealer gave me a brand new automatic to take home for 3 days and when I returned it I placed an order for a Manual.

Do multiple trucks multiple days. Vary your route. City, interstate, etc. You would also be very surprised what different people think. Some people come from a little car and the Tacoma is powerful. Some come from a diesel F250 and it has no torque. Some come from an M3 and the whole truck sucks. It just depends on your expectations. Good luck and remember 20K people a month buy and like these trucks.
