either way, have the truck checked out at a Toyota dealership for frame rust issues! that being said, i'd go with the '96. shitty the xtra cab is fucked up though.

Got married, my son was born a year later, we were living in my inlaws basement, i did what i had to to get us into a house. I miss it, but i'm all about family first :) And the fact that I sold it for 4,000 more than i bought it for helped the decision

i know the black one looks badass but will it be reliable? hows the 3.4l V6? I had a 92 V6 yota but it seemed underpowered when going up hills

Ohhh Yeah, I remember that thread on your engagement/marriage. Congrats! I hope all is going well! And so am I and that was a good move. I'm about to do the same (engagement).

That was an Awesome truck forsure.

My 168,000 mile 2003 Tacoma is flawless. Obviously there will be bumps and bruises on it, but mechanically its brilliant! Those 3.4L are bulletproof. They have plenty of power for what they are pulling on, I have yet to tow with it, but I wouldn't pull more than an average sized boat with it.

Honestly, the prices are too high for both of them. I would keep looking for something completely stock.

And don't be scared of the 3.4L, they have great power and at 166k miles, mine's doing great. Definitely not to be compared to the old 3.0 in the pre tacos.

Problem is, I'd rather have something NOT stock then buy something stock and have to pay later to addon, it'd never happen haha. If i buy something built the extras are paid by the car loan

K now these 2 are a bit out of my price range but with taxes coming i might be able to swing it... Thoughts?

Fair enough. Between those I would go with the 2001 if you can get it for 8k or less since those tires are done, nowhere near 50% left.

the 2001 is sold, damn guy not marking his ad. I test drove the 96 tonight, it was nice except the clutch has to be let WAY out... concerning.

The friction point says nothing about the wear on the disc with a hydraulic clutch. If its not slipping (try 5th gear on the freeway and floor it, if the motor revs but you go no faster, its slipping) then you should be good to go.

Not really sure what would cause that actually. Maybe something to do with the other components (master cylinder/slave cylinder.)

My old sonoma's clutch would grab at the very top and I got used to it. I actually kinda liked it.

I doubt its still is a clutch cable... The clutch maybe going out by its self. Ask the owner. Thats the only thing I could think of for all that play.

It was anything else, it would make your leg sore after driving it.
