this truck for sale close to my house, want some opinions and advice. First thing I noticed when I pulled up was hubs were locked in, so I'm guessing has been drivin that way. Has 151k on original motor (22r) and tranny. Quite a bit of oil residue under neath. Drove great, shifted good, 4wd works. Body looks good except for back drivers side. Tail gait don't work, bottom front bumper dinged up. Owner said it used a little bit of oil. Looks like it's been using/leaking oil for awhile. Could be something small, or.... what you guys think? He hit me at $3,000

I'd hit him at $2k and probably end up at $3k after sealing up oil leaks / new water pump / timing belt etc.

Check the frame. The fenders look like he's been battle rust and failed.

x2 plus that bedside is making my OCD flare up - I want to start sanding it down and see what's going on underneath there.

didn't have time today after work to stop and check frame, but now that you mention that, I remember seeing some sort of registration sticker on bottom side windshield that said it was registered in Virginia, could explain some of the rust. all the salt on roads from snow perhaps? anyways ill stop tomorrow and check the frame, thanks for the help.

dalandser, there's lots of bondo on that side, and quite a bit on the tail gait. I prob end up replacing bode side panels and tail gait, but don't plan on paying 3k and having to put that much money in it.

I just bought a 22r 4 cylinder 84' yota a rotted frame and an aluminum flatbed for $400. After welding new steel onto the frame it's very strong and structural again

"Is it worth it" in my opinion is really up to you and how much work you want to put into it. I'd offer $2000 IF the frame is good.

    Will they unlock?

If the frame is good and you are looking for a beater to refinish with bedliner (www.monstaliner.com) and either tool around town or the local woods with, it might be a great candidate. But it deserves more inspection.

Get it on a lift if at all possible. Do a compression and leakdown test. Inspect the brakes and suspension.

Regardless of all the rage about Toyota truck value, ones like that are truly a niche market. Yea, someone will buy it, but not everyone will be flocking to throw money at him. Besides, I'm not sure that thing even has cupholders or iPhone compatibility, something critical to many buyers.
