Hey everyone. Super new user to this forum and new to Tacomas all together. I was hoping to get some input on what I should look for when purchasing a truck. I'm looking to get a 1999 Tacoma extended cab v6. My budget is between $5000-$5500. I've always loved the way this model year looked and I'm ready to get a truck. I've been driving little cars for a while and I want something bigger. So if I can get some info on what I should look out for, that would be great.

    Thank you for your time!!

Frame is 1st thing I would look at. Known for rusting out. Carfax if possible. Then your normal questions. Paperwork, record of recent work or maintenance. Fluid checks, etc. Are you going 4x4? Make sure it works if so. I would stay away from vehicle with too many mods.also. This is only my opinion, others should follow. And by the way, welcome to tw.!

Thank you for your input guys. I'll be keeping an eye out for rust. I would love a 4x4 but I have no need for it. I'll post soon when I actually purchase one. Thanks again!

Not needing 4x4 should get you a nicer truck for your money also.

Same as andy said. Also, ask to take a brief test drive. I got mine for graduation and it had trouble pulling off from a stop. Found that it was the MAF sensor and spark plug wires that needed to be replaced. Also, if you have a mechanic you can bring along, have him take a look at it. Always helps. Good luck!
