Hey guys, I recently sold my car and am looking to get a base model 2014 regular cab ($19,885) or a 2015 access cab ($21,470). On autotrader (Southern California) they aren't too far apart in price. With the new 2016 models coming in presumably soon, shouldn't there be a good deal on leftover 2014 models? Do I have to walk in and ask for one? If I do what kind of price would I be getting? This will be my first new vehicle, thanks for any/all help.

Is the 2014 used? If its used, I doubt the price will move much. If its brand new, I'm surprised they haven't sold it somehow.

The price you get can vary greatly. It depends on where you are, how badly they want to get rid of the car, etc etc. I tried to use the fact that a new one was coming out in 6 months when I was bargaining. In total I got the truck for about 3k under sticker. I'd assume you could get a bit taken off.

People will offer a ton of advice. They may say it should have a huge discount, others will tell you the Tacomas sell so well they probably won't take anything off. Some will tell you not to buy unless you are out the door (after tax and title) for the sticker price (usually meaning 2-3k off, depending on your location and local tax/fees).

Good luck and just take your time when negotiating. Expect the price negotiating to take a while. Don't be afraid to walk away if you don't like the price. There's a good chance that if you walk away they will chase after you with a better price....worked for me :)

I walked in on July 28th and got 3k off my trd sport sticker. I wrote down my number and they accepted (Maybe i wrote down too much but i am happy) I think u should look for a 15 and try to go late in the month. I didn't see any 14 when I went.
Also get financed from an credit union if possible. I got 1.74% 72 months. If you finance through Toyota the finance guy can help you lower the rate just tell them to go to their manager and get interest rate coupons. Don't let him bs you, he knows what they are and they get plenty each month. Each one is 25 basis points off the rate. I was in their top tier for lending and the best they could find was 3.19% from Toyota and 2.75% from some bank.
September is looking like when the fed will increase rates so august may be a good month to save a little.

Thanks for the response, I will keep what you said in mind. The 2014 is new. Is it odd to still have new 2014 models at this time?

That seems like you got a great deal! Do they have more leeway with the higher end models? Would it possible to get a discount of 2-3k off a base model? Maybe I should pursue the double cab long bed and look for more savings there. What do you mean by the fed will increase rates in September? If I could wait until December, would that be a better time? Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm trying to soak up as much as I can.

i used the old carbuyingtips.com system and worked the dealers via email until I got the deal I wanted. Build the car on TrueCar.com with exactly the options you want and check and see if there are rebates or dealer incentives on the car (from edmunds.com).

Also check your bank or credit union for a pricing guide to see what a "fair" price shakes out to be. In my case it was about the price of the base tacoma with convenience package built up on TrueCar.com

I shopped and worked dealers against each other until I figured I couldn't squeeze not $100 more out of anyone and then went to a dealer to purchase. I got mad at the dealer as they were bringing a truck in for me on a Thursday and I didn't hear anything from them until Saturday morning. By that time I was at another dealer and told them. I am buying a base access cab with convenience package from another dealer today for X dollars and wanted to see if you'd beat the deal.

Dealer pointed to three trucks. All base access with convenience package and said he'd beat the price by $100 for any one of them. To my surprise his trucks also had mats, paint protector, and a USB cable kit and a couple other goofy things I wasn't getting at the original dealer.

They won't price down the Tacoma much (in Southeast Region where I am) but I felt I did as good as I could.

I strongly recommend the system at carbuyingtips.com

And I forgot to mention I contacted Toyota during the process and asked them what if anything would they do to get my business. After I purchased they gave me a $500 "Loyalty" check.

The fed is looking to increase the banks borrowing rate from the fed. In turn the bank will increase your borrowing rate. The last I heard is we should see and increase in the rate as early as September. My personal opinion it will happen next month. The rate may be negligible (quarter of a %) but any increase makes the cost of our truck more that the price you negotiated. More money spent for the same truck.

When I purchased July 28 15 Toyota had/has a military and college grad incentives.

In my area it would be very odd to have a new 2014 still on the lot. These things fly off the dealer lots. My local dealer sells about a dozen every week. Maybe they would cut a deal to get rid of it.
