As the title states, I'm looking to get started in off roading my tacoma, I'm located in Central MA and I'm not sure where to start. Looking to keep it pretty easy as I have little to no experience off road so obviously I'm running the stock TRD sport suspension and have only added a set of Falken wildpeak tires to the taco. A quick google search only yields a couple beaches on the cape that I would be able to drive on, I'm not really interested in this due to the salt air/water. Any help would be appreciated

Awesome, I'll check it out. I'm just furiously trying to catch up with the thread at the moment, there's a lot of pages to go through.

I'd just skip to the front. Also poke around the north east BS one as well. Stuff normally pops up.

Are there any 4WD clubs in your area? That's probably the best place to start.

On the left coast, we're pretty spoiled with US Forest Service roads, don't know if you have a lot of those out there, but if you do, find a couple MUVMs (motor vehicle use maps) and just go out and drive them. There are some on-line resources like AllTrails.com that have a pretty decent list of trails, trail maps, etc... might look there for ideas.

Take it slow, be safe. Just last weekend there were 3 goobers in 3rd gens in So Cal who totaled their new trucks being stupid. One rolled down a hill on a closed fire road, and the other two put their trucks on their sides (these were all totally separate incidents, just coincidentally happened near the same time). This is the mentality I often talk about, where those with A-trac and crawl control and other electronic crutches think they can just go out and hit the hard trails and be fine - mostly because that's what the salesman told them. So, again, take it slow, be safe.

Read up on the thread about recovery and the one about personal and trail safety ("going it alone" or something).

These trucks are super capable off road bone stock. Don't think you need a whole bunch of mods to wheel with it. What you should focus on first is recovery. If not a winch, then a hi-lift. You should have one of those anyway since it is more of a recovery tool, not just a "jack". Get some tow straps, a chain (do NOT do dynamic pulls with a chain!), shovel, etc...

If you want to offroad in mass you gotta join a club or wait to find an open run. If your on Facebook join Northeast Overland and New England Overland. If you want to go north to NH there are thousands of class vi roads that are legal to wheel on. ExploringNH is a good forum for finding NH trips. Also if you just search on Youtube you can find videos of different Class VI roads.
