Hello all. I am looking at purchasing a 22 foot boat, the dry weight is 3000lbs plus trailer. I have the 2015 Tacoma V6 pre runner with tow package. If I recall, towing is rated at 6500. Can someone confirm if capable and if towing a similar weighted boat? Thanks

Well if you know the tow rating is 6500 lbs and the boat with trailer is 3000 lbs then why are you asking?

Also consider the weight of any gear, ice chests, people, and fuel, ect. Will you be towing long distances, up mountain roads? A trailer brake controller and a trailer with brakes will help a lot. You won't win any races or be passing anyone, but for short distances sure. However, after you tow a few times you might consider upgrading to a larger vehicle. Keep an eye on transmission temps and change diff fluid more frequently. An aftermarket trans cooler may help also.

Thanks. Definitely the trailer has discs brakes on all four tires. I agree, the weight of the boat is dry weight. Once you add fuel, wet boat, attempting to haul out of ramp would be my biggest question. Reason why I asked if anyone has hauled a 22 foot boat. Once you have a an incline ramp and hauling it out of the water is a different story vs straight driving...

You might have issues spinning a rear tire if the ramp is slimy and wet, otherwise you should be good to go. Tow in “4” not “D” to help the tranny and have fun!

wow, I'm surprised the trailer is double axel with disc brakes for a 3000lb boat.

depending on the ramp, you may have slippage when pulling boat out.

A 22’ boat with engine weighs only 3000 lbs??? What kind and model boat is it? Are you sure about the weight? Also a dual axel trail for a 22’ boat can weigh over 2000lbs. Seems like you’ll be over 5000 lbs. Possibly quite a bit over. It sounds to me like more than what you want or should tow with your taco.

Yup. The boat weight might even be without engine.

I'd try real hard to get total weight of the entire haul.

My only concern for you would be lack of 4x4. I pull a very similar size boat no problem, but every once in a while need the 4wd for a very slippery ramp, or once for a ramp that had gotten sandy at the bottom from a recent storm. I actually upgraded to this truck from a 2012 Prerunner for this very reason. But for a ramp with minimal seaweed / algae / sand, no problem whatsoever.

I don’t know what kind of boat you’re pulling but I have a 22 foot pontoon that was a nightmare to pull with my Tacoma.

My 22' Progression with a 250 HP 4 stroke outboard easily weighs less than 2,000 lbs, but it's a high performance boat with special construction. Most "production" 22' boats are way over 2,000 lbs.

I'd double check those weights. While most Tacoma's are rated for 6500 lbs in the real world 4500-5000 is a more realistic limit. And that assumes only a driver in the tow vehicle. Start adding other passengers, coolers, and other gear and you can get overweight pretty quick.

It’s a Cobia 217 center console which the boat alone is 2950lbs plus engine, Yamaha 4 stroke 200 Hp. Per the state of Florida, any trailer carrying over 3000 lbs will require brakes on all axles. Come to think about it, I agree I’m knocking close to the 6500 range.

The Yamaha 200 is around 500lbs. Boat, motor, trailer, fuel, gear , you are 6000 lbs plus. Too much for your taco. Get a different boat or a different truck
