    I am looking for some help with lifting my Tacoma. I would like to put 285/75/16 tires on it. How much should I lift my truck to make this happen? Will I need to do any trimming? Suggestions on what kind of lift? Any help greatly appreciated. New Tacoma owner here. Thanks!

    at least 2.5 in lift. You will need to do the pinch weld mod. Not much trimming just hammering.

    A local shop quoted me $1800. I feel like that isn't a bad deal because it includes tires, wheels, and a Rough Country 2.5 inch lift. I would like to stay under $2000. They said with that lift I will be able to fit 31X10.50 tires on it.

    You can run that size tires stock I believe. I ran 265/75r16 stock which is roughly 31x10.5. If you're able to do the work yourself you can get a good lift for $1800. But if you want tires too, a good way to go would be OME and tires but you'll have stock wheels.

    31x10.5 = 265/70, stock size on 98+ 4wd/pre-runner

    32x10.5 = 265/75, fits with very little rub (full lock or off-road)

    33x12.5 = 285/75, read above

    also, there are a ton of threads already and user/build pages to look at and see which one you like. search under the 1st Gen forums and you will read for weeks ;p

    I'm guessing the rough country lift they are talking about is the 2.5" spacer/shackle lift that runs about $250+ shipping. Believe it or not I had that lift and used it for about 8 years... and loved it! (for the money). It was surprisingly effective and you can fit 32" tires. You can fit 33" tires if you do some pinch weld mods, and you may still have just a slight rub in very odd circumstances. 31s are too small. The lift itself is not difficult to install.

    What kind of tires? I'd get a quality all terrain and skip the wheels for now if money is tight. Good tires in the 32" range will run you $800-$900 out the door, give or take.

    @Buckoma Yeah they said it was the 2.5" spacer and shackle lift. I am thinking about the Pro Comp Mud terrain tires. The shop said I could get those for about $210 a piece. Thanks for the advice everyone!

    A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.

    Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
    a 285 is only 11.25" wide btw and u can do 5100 upfront but with stock coils (since u have the OR pkgs) u can only go with the 1.25" upfront, if u want 2.5" u can get eibach coils for $170 and a rear shackle lift for less than $100, my buddy with a first gen went this route, didnt get 5100 on the rear just up front, and it was just over $400 i think, i helped him with the install and it took both of us about 3 hours or so for all of it. he has 265/75r 16 no rub and says the ride is great

    thanks E.J. I erred on the side of caution but didn't figure it out. :p I'm guessing a 305 would put it at ~12.5 then (40mm = 1.6 inch)
