As title states I'm considering making a change. Anyone here go from 2nd gen tacoma to a 5th gen 4runner? Looking to get some feedback on what they liked or disliked with the change. Thanks

It was a good move for me. The only downside is the loss of bed space but aside from that it's a good move.

Yea that's the obvious one. I don't use my bed like I used to so that's no biggie but I'm sure if I make the move there will come a time I wish I had a bed lol.

I just handed the keys of my '06 Tacoma over to my wife and picked up an '01 4Runner. So far I have been able to fit all the normal stuff I haul in my 4Runner. I have a friend with a 5th gen 4R also that traded up from a 2nd gen Tacoma - no complaints on his end either. More power, solid MPG, and lots of cabin space.

I did it. Went from 2013 Taco DCSB Sport, to a 2015 SR5 Premium 4Runner.

    They're totally different animals.

I really miss all the storage space in the Tacoma.

I really, REALLY like the way the 4Runner rides, and it has a lot of nice bells and whistles.

At some point, I'll miss the hell out of that bed.

Made the switch from a 11 sport to a 14 trail. Love all the usable room n second row is actually comfy. Storage is more usable. Driving is much more refined. But all of that doesn't matter , the back window rolls down what else is there to think about lol

I traded in my 2014 off road 4x4 for a 2016 SR5 4Runner and I am so happy I did. The 4runner drives so much better and I love being able to keep stuff in the rear. My 3 kids are way more comfortable as well, the 2nd row has much more room. The 4runner is such a better all around vehicle, it is a no brainer for me.

You can go buy a larger 4x8 trailer on CL for cheap and then you have the perfect set up.

Funny this should come up as I was going to ask the same thing.
Been a rough last month, my wife of 25 years told me she is done and wants to be alone and on her own. Basically separated for now.
So while moving stuff in the back of the Tacoma and my buds Durango I got thinking. I think I'd like to have a 4 runner. Back of the runner looks to be the same size as the bed of my truck. I don't haul much with my truck, and I could pick up a small trailer for large or messy items.
How well does the 4 runner tow?
What is the difference between the two trail packages? I don't do any heavy off road so I figure the factory packages will do all I need.

Sorry to hear about that man :( My parents separated after 25+ years of marriage, it's tough.

Have you considered getting a nice hard top for your Tacoma? Could be the solution rather than getting a 4runner if having an enclosed bed space is the main issue.

I had both at the same time, 2005 double cab short bed and a 2011 4Runner. I preferred the 4Runner over my truck. It was awesome Offroad, awesome on road trips, better gas mileage, and had more options than my truck. I added heated seats. It did amazing things and definitely lives up to all the Offroad hype that goes with the 4runners.

This is what I found as well, the 4runner is better in every way. The only difference for me is I don't have a rear locker anymore, but I never needed it in my Tacoma when I had it. The SR5 4x4 comes with ATRAC which is all I ever used with my Tacoma. I am amazing at how well the 4runner rides down the road. To have a 100% made in Japan Toyota built on the same platform as the Land Cruiser is a win, they are also made in the same factory.

    I sold my 14 Tacoma for a 16 4Runner.
But, I still seem to cruise this forum more than others.

Today I test drove a 2016 trail edition. All I can say is you would love it! Been considering getting out of my 03 Tacoma for one. Just need to save a little more money and im positive I'll be in one myself. Check them out and take it for a spin.

Driving one and looking at the hood scoop reminded me of driving my wrx's.

I have a 14 trail n love the thing. Why are u wanting to trade? If u r a person that trades every so many yrs I don't think you could go wrong but from everything I read and forums looks like the 4Runner will actually be redesigned here soon say two yrs?
