My 21 was Texas made. My 22 is Mexican. Also I can’t tell a difference between the two. Both have 0 issues

This. I would be rather leery purchasing anything built during and after the "virus of unspecified origin". With the lock downs, supply chain issues, worker shortages, etc....I imagine a few corners have been cut and QC not being up to par.

    New.

Though the market is getting better, buyers are still overpaying for recent used models.

My 2020 DCLB was manufactured in Mexico, and I haven't had any issues with the vehicle after 37K. Runs great, has enough power even with a truck cap and full length rack over cab and cap, sliders, and armor underneath installed with all of the the extra weight. It shifts fine, although I will get a tune for it in the near future: Everything is still intact and working just fine.

    It's a "keeper".

They're overpaying for new models too. When you can't get at least $2k off msrp, your getting hosed.

Pick the one you like, maybe a few years older and known minimal problems like an 18-19 with a solid service history (probably the number one thing to look for) and add the features you want. With those years you will get the TSS, can’t exactly add that, but if you want the LED headlights that’s a simple (pricey) mod. They just plug and play with an easily available harness.

My 19 has no power/seat height adjustment and honestly I find the seat fine at my 5’9” height. If you need it higher, they sell spacers for that and honestly how many times do you move the seat if you are the only driver?

My 19 transmission is fine since they ran that latest update. Any scan tool will confirm if it’s applied to the one you are looking at. I drove a 21 at the local auto show and found it the same as mine in behavior.

Then there’s the updated radio/nav in the newer ones. If you want something different have a look at crutchfield, there’s *fill in the blank* brand radios on there that are light years beyond even the 23’s best stock setup. There’s harnesses that make all the stock steering wheel buttons work like it was meant to be there.

All good info! I appreciate each of you sharing. I kind of figured there would be some bias to the comments. And rightfully so. I think some of my curiosity stemmed from a comment a mechanic made to me a year or two ago; he drives a '17 V6 and said he opted for that year due to some fuel injection changes that were made after that year. He didn't provide any details beyond that. So, I'm not sure if that comment was based on a general concern of his, his experience or something he'd heard. Maybe that is a non-issue.

Here's to hoping the market continues to cool a little over the next 6-8 months!

I vote for new. People want way too much for their used tacos. With other models of cars, I would generally go for 1-2 years used. You can often get a significant savings on a very decent car

I have a buddy that buys a 5+ year old car every few years and sells it for about what he paid for it. I’m not as good at negotiation and I tend to drive my cars into the ground.

For what it’s worth I have a Mexican-built, early 2016 TRDOR. V6 and automatic and built in Nov 2015. Yeah, it had a few TSB’s and a recall or two, but overall at almost 90K miles and a fair amount of off-road, it’s been excellent. I’d like to have CarPlay and power rear sliding window, don’t really care about power seats, happy to not have TSS. So I’d say don’t ignore 2016’s if you see a good deal.
