Looking to purchase my first Tacoma, would like some expert help

Hey guys, I am looking at buying a newer vehicle and love mini trucks I used to have a 4.0 ford ranger and am looking to purchase either another one or a frontier or a Tacoma so what I would like to know is why I should buy a Tacoma over the other trucks. I have always liked them more but they are more out of my price range. I know I'd want a 2nd gen under 100k with 4x4 and looking to get it lifted and all that fun stuff, what can I expect for true mileage and what things should I look out for before purchasing the truck and what are some common problems with them? Thanks anything would help
