    Hi Everyone!

I work in healthcare and now that I've stopped taking the train, I need a reliable way to get to work (getting called in more often). My current budget isn't great, as I'm saving for a wedding and a house. Probably 5-6k max.

I have a motorcycle, but its not cutting with the weather around here. I'll want to transport that occasionally, and I love fishing, so I'll want to put a jon boat in the back, or tow eventually.

I have my eye on a few Tacomas around here and thought I might be able to get some knowledgeable input here. Is this a good place to post some ads and get an opinion?

    Been looking at this:

    Craigslist ad: https://providence.craigslist.org/ctd/d/providence-2006-toyota-tacoma-4x4/7097639872.html

    Carfax: https://www.carfax.com/api/consumer...79d3daaae1a672bd182037fa5459a79f12c8317da637b

Feel to delete if its not the right place.

    Thanks!

Your budget will not find you what you want. Buy a 2-4k$ Camry get married buy a house and then reevaluate. Tacos are not cheap. Prioritize your needs.

I mean if you really want a Tacoma I would use that $6k as a down payment on a used one and finance the rest if you can afford to make a payment.

Buying a Tacoma outright with $6k is going to limit you to high mileage 1st gens, not anything wrong with that per se but if reliability is a big concern I would stay away from high mileage older cars in general. Bigger maintenance and potential big repairs can creep up fast

What the first guy said. If the train was treating you well and you work in healthcare then the Tacoma is more of a want than a need (unless you're planning on transporting ventilators)

You can buy a really nice corolla or camry in the LE base model trim that will last you 200k miles easy while sipping gas at 34mph and $40 tires.

Once you can afford a Tacoma then sell your beater. Don't worry, Tacomas will be around forever and so will Tacomaworld. There's no rush

You can definitely find a first gen, but you'll want to budget another couple hundred to maybe 1k for repairs. Biggest issue will be finding a clean one, the dirty ones flood the market with shitty frames or underlying issues and make it appear like you can get a 4k tacoma with reasonable miles. But you find out the bed is rusted through, frame is garbage, motor hasn't been maintained etc.

I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but my work might have a 2010 tacoma which i've been trying to get my hands on for years. If it becomes available i'd sell you my gen 1 2000 extended cab for around 6k. Has no underbody rust(southern) and i've put a lot of work in, its a super nice truck. New suspension, starter, timing belt, new plug, VC gaskets and plentums, alignment last week. Only downside for new england is its a prerunner. However in the one snowstorm it saw this year it did fine, and i think it was the first snowstorm its ever seen in 20 years.

Sorry to hear man, my taco is an auto and i don't mind it. But been driving sticks for 17 years. My new car is a 6 speed manual-2019 Accord 2.0 sport and most people are shocked to find they still make them in stick.

    What kind of bikes???
