I would like to clear a few things up before I start buying the stuff to upgrade my stereo in my 2009 Double Cab TRD Sport

I have the JBL stereo, bluetooth, and also a backup camera.

1 - I am not really interested in buying a large-screen HU, and so I my backup cam needs to continue to display in my rearview mirror. I'm a little confused if there is anything to consider to keep it this way, or if I will need to do any rewiring for this. Will removing the stock stereo effect my stock backup camera from showing up in the rearview mirror monitor?

2 - Bluetooth. This is the whole reason to swap out the stock HU, I want A2DP and a USB port. My truck has the bluetooth microphone located in the rearview mirror. Is this something that can be connected to an aftermarket HU, considering I do my research and find a HU that accepts an external microphone? Will I need some sort of harness/adapter to make this work?

3 - Steering wheel controls. I'm pretty sure I would purchase the adapter from *********.com due to the fact that they pre-wire a harness on their steering wheel controls control box. Does anyone have any real-world experience they can share with me on this subject? I want the volume/track/mode buttons on the left to work as well as the on/off hook, and handsfree button on the right to work. Preferably, I would love it if the handsfree button would be able to activate Siri on my iPhone.

Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide to me, I've done some searches and reading here, but I'm not 100% clear on these few points and I don't want to buy everything and be bummed out that I can't get it to work the way I want...

Also, I haven't settled on a HU. Can anyone recommend to me a double-din HU that is priced around $150-250 that has bluetooth with a2dp, and accepts an external mic & OEM steering wheel controls? I've been looking at the Clarion CX501, but it doesn't accept an external mic, so I'm a bit hesitant to go with a mic installed on the front of the HU vs the mic that is in my rearview that I already know works relatively well.

I just did all of what you speak.

    1. Your backup camera is totally separate from the HU and doing nothing with it leaves it the way it is.

    2. I do not believe the Mirrors blue tooth mic can be wired easily to the head unit, but almost all head units with bluetooth come with their own mic.

    3. Steering controls are the trickiest bit. If you want I can find the model name that I used for the programming. It is super helpful to have 2 people perform this part of the install. SWI-something was the model name of my programmer for those controls.

BTW I just installed my HU two nights ago, so this info is fresh. :)

Thanks for the quick reply! Good to hear about the backup camera. Also, if the mirror's mic can not be wired to a head unit, I may end up choosing the Clarion CX501 because of the fact that the mic is on the face of the HU vs. having to run a mic up anywhere behind the dash...

Steering controls seem easy enough when I looked at the *********.com video. Their adapter is more expensive at $70, but they include a harness which seems to make it kinda fool proof from what I can tell...

Link to adapter at *********.com with install video: http://shop.*********.com/Toyota-Steering-Wheel-Interface-Kit-ASWC.htm

Which HU did you go with?

I've got the pioneer appradio 2. Love it. My adapter was much less expensive than that, I'd poke around a bit actually, just saw you're in Cali. You should ok proforce before you pull the trigger on any of this. He's a huge asset to you Cali guys. Knows his stuff.
