Painting the headlight "bezel" to do the BHLM won't affect light output much at all since you leave everything else, ie, reflector bowl alone.

I'm guessing the eco tires are whats helping you, I currently have rockstars and trail grapplers, they're probably the heaviest options available, each tire is 74lb and the rims are 35lb. Im going down to 265 dynapro atm's soon and I think that will help, theyre only 40lb, I may also reduce my lift to 1.75" instead of 2.5".

I just looked up the bezel and the reflector bowl is self explanatory.

In a BHLM, which one are you painting? I guess I have seen both.

I thought you painted the reflector bowl black too. That's what I see a lot of retrofits do, which sounds like it would severely reduce light output

Holy crap! That is a lot of weight!! You need a regear for that don't you?

Yes the eco tires help with rolling resistance and the larger diameter helps travel further. They are not harder to turn because though there is more rubber, (couple lbs per tire more probably) there is also less rim weight (20 chrome to 16" alloy). The larger distance from endpoint to axle makes it harder to turn but it is negligible.

You paint the bezel for the BHLM...and the reflector bowl is left completely alone unless you retrofit. If you painted the reflector bowl without retrofitting you'd have zero light lol. Seeing as retrofits use projectors which have their own built in reflector component so that's why you can paint the stock reflector bowl as it isn't used any more.

EDIT: BHLM in the sense of BHLM is just painting the bezel which is the trim. A full on retrofit is the only reason you'd paint the reflector bowl to get that aggressive headlight look.

Got it. So ALL A BHLM is is painting the bezel? No tinting the glass or anything?

    Correct. Bezel and nothing else.

That sounds simple. Lot of gain from small cost/time. I will try this soon if my lenses will allow. So has anyone done any variations or are they all 100% the same?

My .02 worth.....don't rush any decisions. Sounds like you're doing your research..keep it up. I bought new wheels for my truck and ended up finding others I liked better like a week after I had my new ones installed.:frusty:

I just bought blacked out DEPO headlights off Amazon for $99. Couldn't be happier. Same light output as stock plus look good. I sealed around the edges of the lights with silicone to prevent moisture issues like some have had. So far so good. I didn't want to go through the BHLM either and these work for me.

You get everything you need. I see that they are $119 now. Still a good deal IMO.

That is a good deal and they look good but I still would rather do the BHLM if possible.

People have also color matched their bezels. Looks great on certain colors. I've seen speedway blue, red, white, and also MGM color matched. Just search up "-insert color here- headlight mod" and I'm sure you'll find other pics. Here are some I pulled up:

Those are the same lights I suggested before, just a better price.

Also no offense, but if you can't unbolt the stock headlights and swap them with replacements you should probably hold off on modifying your truck and do some research here on TW. Just my 2 cents

Yes I installed them. First one took about 25 minutes, second about 15. Very easy to do. There are several YouTube videos out there that walk you through the process of removing and re-installing your lights.

Thanks for doing that. Those do look good! However, I meant if anyone had painted a different piece of the assembly. But I couldn't think of what else to paint.

I have always seen flat/matte colors for HLMs. Has anyone done a glossy/anodized? How would it look?

I don't think he meant he couldn't do them, but I agree, research, research, research, until you can perform the desired DIY.

And though I don't think he meant that, it is indeed strange to imagine someone having headlights installed by a shop

I can't wait to do BHLM; finally, a cheap mod
