I have a 2018 TRD off road tacoma in quicksand. I would love to swap hoods with someone who has one with the hood scoop. I'm in middle Tennessee and willing to travel and possibly pay some cash on top of the deal.

Do you have a short wife? There was a DV call on Live PD because her husband drove to meet some guy to swap hoods and now she can't see over the scoop

I would suggest keep the non-scooped hood! Visibility is better. Plus the good scoop is non-functional.

Just my 2 cents. I am glad my quicksand doesn’t have a good scoop.

I don’t get the visibility issue at all, and I drive with a scoop daily. Do people look at the portion of road 5 feet in front of their vehicle when driving? I don’t see how it would otherwise matter. The areas on either side of the scoop give you visibility for front parking.

It’s generally an issue with sun glare. I would hope most of us can see past the hood unless a person is extremely short.

When you off road that visibility is important. I suppose that’s why they put it on the sport. Toyota wanted a Hood scoop in the lineup. But it was too absurd to spec it on the OR.

That 1” translates to like 2 fuckin feet on the ground

Lol riiiight that's why they also put it on the pro  but sure, the scoop makes the truck non-off road capable :notsure:

I guess you’re talking about rock crawling then. I off road trails for camping and it’s a non factor for that.

I can see it possibly being an issue for rock crawling though in some extreme circumstances, but I also think that you could get around it. It’s not very wide of an obstruction.

I just think that it isn’t the best idea. I have had a hood scoop and now do not have a hood scoop. I like the non hood scoop better. Easier to keep clean, less work (since he already has a non-hood scoop hood), and increased visibility. How much increase and how useful meh might be debatable.

But to each his/her own. I did like the hood scoop for awhile on my trd sport...but after a time...the non-function part bugged me.

It just seems like a lot of trouble for little gain to swap.

But hey we are blessed to even have these trucks and to have the option of switching them out!

What they do or don’t put on a pro has no bearing on what is and isn’t optimum for off roading. Unless you believe everything that you’re told, and I assume you don’t. I never said it wasn’t off road capable. The spirit of my post post has that “why have this, when it does nothing, except REDUCE what you can see, especially on an incline” feel to it, which you must have taken personally. Don’t. I make fun of hood scoops all the time, it’s nothing personal.

If you really want a hood scoop you can also DIY like I did a few years back. The visibility is fine and there’s no glare off the cardboard. Mine is detachable so I can take it off when I’m in the trails.

My scoop on my old sport attracted other cars to wreck into it even when it was parked! I swear it was a magnet! I can prove it with SCIENCE!

    Ok...I really can’t prove it.

You should easily start your own business with that. Just get a trademark and you’re good to go. Plenty of investors out there.

Of course not. When was the last time you had to pick a line, and see the giant ass rock disappear in front of you... on the road.
