    enough mods to get 12MPG
    Hey everyone,
I am clearly new to this forum (but not Tacomas or Toyotas) and needed a little help before I pull the trigger on a new Tacoma. I have had one in the past, just don't remeber what kind of gas milage it got. I currently drive a 2012 FJ 4x4 Auto with 295/70/17 Toyos. This gigantic box is getting a lovely 13.5 MPG and I think I would like to get out of it. After I purchased it I moved from 5 miles to my job to 40 miles to my job each way.

With all this being said, what are yall getting as far as MPG? If you could let me know if you have any mods and if you are 2WD or 4WD. Thanks in advance!

I can still get around 20 on the highway during the summer with 265/75/16 Duratracs and 3" lift. Currently only getting around 13-14 combined during the winter.

There will be a ton of different replies to this thread. I have a 2006 TRD Sport DCSB 4WD with a 3" lift and 32.5" tires and my gas mileage dropped a good amount after that. Tacomas arent generally known for good gas mileage in the first place though. I'd say after the lift and tires I get maybe 14-15 mpg on the highway. :(

I have a 2wd(prerunner) double cab Long bed with 2 in lift and (265/70/17) tires. I get 19 but 90% of my driving is freeway.

First welcome to TW, second a 6 lug pre-runner wont get much better ( v-6) a 5 lug with a 4 cyl may get you closer to 20mpg but that going to be stock. Driving habits and location will make a difference by 3-6mpg.

If you keep it stock, I averaged about 18-19, and 21-22 on the highway cruising at 60-65 in my prerunner. Recently lifted it, so I', not sure exactly what I am getting anymore

I am pretty sure I am going to get a double cab long bed, just not sure if I am going to go with 2WD or 4WD. I will be driving 90% highway. Its going to be stock for awhile.

    Welcome!

4.0 V6 auto trans and 4wd, have 265/75R16. mixed driving i get about 16 right now with winter gas. I need new spark plugs, so I should get back up to 18 or 20 with some new ones. thats what i was getting last summer with mixed driving.

If i was you i’d wait a little longer and see if summer gas makes you better MPG. my buddy has a ’11 trail team and is on 3” lift and 295/75r16 BFG A/T I think he was getting about 18 when he put it all on. winter gas is also hurting him some.

thanks....I would love to get hang on to my FJ, but driving 80+ miles a day and getting 13.5 MPG is killing my bank account. Kinda makes me want to move back to the city...well not really

Is keeping your fj and buying a cheaper high mpg highway driver an option?

maybe ditch the CAI? my buddy said it did not help much and some times made stuff worse. he was looking at them for his fj.

Thats always an option, but I can't let a $30K+ car just sit. I think I've just had enough of the FJ. Its a blast to drive but it is not practical at all.
I have to have something to pull a 2 horse trailer and move hay around. I don't want the Fj to be used just for that. Plus, I kinda miss my Tacoma

CAI was pulled after 4 tanks of gas. which equals about 800 whole miles. It literally feels like a cruise ship anchor is atached to the back bumper of that thing!!!

I was getting 375 stock on a tank of gas. then 345 with 305/75/16. now 225 a tank with 286/75/16. I say a lot has to do with what load range the tires are ( how many ply) think my 305 were only 4 ply. my 285 are 10 ply. to heavy for our trucks
