Yeah, it will be a cartridge type.

The only current (as of 2015) Toyotas that don't use a cartridge are the FR-S, Prius C, Tacoma xB, and Yaris.

Agreed. Last V4 I had outlasted the car. Chevettes would rust out before the engines would quit.

 

Hopefully it will be the same size tool as the one I bought to change the oil in my wife's Highlander. I will miss the top mounted filter on my 1GR.

 

Define "real quick"? They used it from 1955 to 1992. That's 37 years, and failures are very uncommon. They kind of go forever actually.

I would expect it will be the same, every other Toyota and Lexus cartridge filter uses the same 64mm tool (which is actually the same size as the smaller 4-cylinder non-cartridge tool).

4 bearing i6 would not survive current day technology. As increased power output started to cause crank flex, they learned real quick.

In a modern engine with an aluminum block and high power for the displacement, yeah, 4 mains would probably be a bad idea. I was just saying that there are inline-6's with less than 7 main bearings, haha.

The 5VZ oil cooler is also located on the bottom of the block. No rust issues

 

Is the tow package extra fluid coolers standard now?

 

I haven't seen too many issues with the oil coolers at the bottom on the Toyotas, other than on the transverse 2GR's, but those were actually having issues with the rubber hoses leaking, not the cooler or the metal lines, they seem to hold up well enough.
