True. And the batteries are lasting as long as the engine itself. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Prius if I needed a car with great MPG.

Too bad the weight savings didn't do much for mileage gains.

Made in Japan product. Real Toyotas are quality vehicles.

My wife is getting about 18-19 mpg in her 2015 F150 V8 4x4 DCSB.

The truck drives SO much better with the weight savings. It feels far nimbler in turns.

That article refers to the Ram 1500 as a game changer. If exhaust fumes in the cab on most trucks and extreme poor reliability are game changing count me out.

That is pretty good. Not quite what was forecasted though. The 2.7 Ecoboost (for an example) is no where near what they said it get.

I went and looked at them, very nice truck...just a little too big for my needs. Now, if the brought back the Ranger...

You guys need to try towing or driving the 3.5L Ecoboost before knocking it. Half of the mileage complaints are because it's so tempting to stomp on it. You get peak torque with that motor at under 3000 RPM. No one else making modern V8's can get that +400 ft lbs of torque down that low. For towing and work duties, nothing equals it. Period.

What is in motion tends to stay in motion. The engine just needs to make enough power to overcome aero drag (the largest factor), drivetrain drag, and rolling resistance drag. Rolling resistance drag is the only one where weight makes a difference at all and that is way small compared to aero drag in an automobile. Atkinson cycle will indeed pay dividends on the highway unless you are pulling heavy grades. You always have to make power... Atkinson cycle just allows you to make that power a little more efficiently.

I drove the 3.5L Ecoboost. Love it! but the reliability still scares me on the long term

Our business has bought about 15 of them on corporate leases. Some of those have stuck around after the lease as a buy back for our summer students. We have 3 with over 250,000 km with no issues. Out of the 15, one truck failed twice and was bought out then sold off. Those are favorable numbers compared to the other trucks in our fleet.

I will say that all of our trucks see synthetic oil changes from day one. I think that is a critical factor on a finely tuned motor with small passages to the turbos like on the Ecoboost.

Good to hear the insight  For the price of 2.7L Ecoboost I rather get the 3.5L Ecoboost for a bit more. I'm just not sold yet on the 2.7L considering the numbers are impressive. I'll wait to see the long term of the 2.7L

I did not say there will be no saving on highway, just more than likely enough to see a major improvement. That nose job probably did more to improve mileage.
City driving, I would think Atkinson cycle should probably get extra 2-3 Mpg better over existing truck. Thats where the big saving should be. Tahts my opinion but since I have no access to the truck I could be wrong. but I would expect 19 MPG in city out of new engine at least, highway not sure, they may get some above 21 MPG but unlikely they will get alot.

I predict 24 highway with 4x4 V6. Maybe 25. I think it could be significantly more efficient than the Colorado considering the new 6 speed and Atkinson cycle engine. ~280 hp, ~275 ft lb torque. That's where my money is.
