I spent some time scrolling thru the 4th Gen forum to see a bunch of pics. I don't like the looks, but I wasn't a huge fan of the 3rd Gen looks either.

I bought my 3rd Gen just recently (Dec). I would have loved more power and/or better fuel economy. Hell, I would love to have greater range too. There are 2 reasons I'm glad I got a 3rd Gen instead of waiting for a 4th Gen: 1) cost, and 2) first year of a new powertrain. That second reason may be irrational, but I came from a '20 F150 2.7 with that garbage 10-speed transmission that had been out for 3 years and STILL was complete shite. So yeah, I'm irrational about "more advance" new drivetrains (transmissions, at least).

I'm in the camp of Meh. Looks wise, its OK. I liked the new Tundra when it came out, I think this is OK, but the same that others have commented its a bit overdone. Now that some bastards here mentioned the "dent" they are right, I can't un-see it now. But I ain't trading in my third gen to get one, that's for sure.

I ordered my Trail in March of '22. Got delivery of it in July.
I made that choice knowing there were rumblings of a possible reveal of the 4th at the end of '22. I decided not to wait because first runs of anything completely new are the plague. Between inflation and the rumors of a complete ground up redesign I knew there was going to be a price bump. Didn't know how much, but enough that all that combined I didn't want to wait it out.

I think I read, or watched a video that said that the Trailhunter with 6ft box is now as long as an F-150 crew cab short box. That is gigantic.

Well , the OP did ask about looks , not so much performance . Who knows, maybe it’ll be great… still little ugly in some spots .

And the cycle continues. 3rd gen guys now sound exactly like the 2nd gen guys.

“Now thatsome bastards here mentioned the "dent" they are right, I can't un-see it now.”

OMG every time I see a pic thats all I think. Cant wait to see one live to see if the dent jumps out.

Seems to me the newer trucks are making the base models really boxy and cut up with these weird lines as part of marketing. I think up until the 2023 Taco you could take a stripped SR-SR5 and do all your mods and it looks great and hard to tell from any OR or even PRO. Now, esp Tundra, it seems a base SR really looks un-fixably boxy. You can change suspension and wheels, but you cant change the box. I think its part of marketing trying to push you into the more expensive models so you give them your money instead of giving it to after market companies. IDK. I mean the 2024 SR Taco really looks bad (ugh the tail end!) but it seems a lot better in a trailhunter (minus the strange trash screen thing behind the cab).

I would get the new Tundra before the Tacoma. I feel like the bigger truck pulls it off better. But I'm sure someone will come out with a lift and wheel/tire combo that will just look perfect.

Lot's of 2nd gen owners hated the way the 3rd gen looked when it first came out.
    Just sayin ...

I just saw the new hummer SUV style in socal yesterday. I prefer them much more than the truck style.

Old BMWs are much better looking than new ones imo. Chris Bangle started BMWs “flame” design and the auto industry has never recovered. Also, designs with sharp angles rarely age well. Classics, from any manufacturer, tend to be more rounded or smooth.

Time likely will not be kind to 4th gens. But since cars (and now trucks) are disposable at this point I wonder if it matters? Maybe just lease it and dump it in a few years, especially if they are not mod-friendly.

I used to think all Tacomas were ugly. But I was going to buy one because everything else is automatic transmission turbo junk that falls apart. Then I got to spend 5 months spotting Tacos in the wild while waiting for my Tacoma to get built and delivered. After a while I started to appreciate their unique look and stance, and how I could always pick one out of a crowd. Now I think they're beautiful!

Regarding the fenders, are there different types? I’ve seen a few eHummers but came across one a few days back (also here in SoCal) and it’s fenders were ridiculous.

I have had one of every generation, recently bought my 2023. I made a conscious decision to not wait on the 2024, and really like my current ride.

The new generation just hasn't gotten me excited yet, while I do like bits and pieces of what I have seen, still on the fence. Have to admit, it took me awhile to warm up to the 3rd generation too, when it first came out, I was like what is up with the giant Crimson Chin look on the front of that thing? images_d95b9d7f506ad2d06f0f5dce65dbe9bd5f15e868.jpg I suppose that too, I got used to and do not mind it. So, some of the body lines etc. of the new Taco might just take some time. I keep my trucks a long time though, my Gen. 2 is 14 years old and still with me, along with the new Gen. 3, so doubting very much I will be getting the next gen. anytime soon, maybe never. Who knows though....

Not that we are talking about Tundra's here, but frankly, I haven't seen much from the new gen. Tundra that I like, far and few between. But I loved the older T-100's. Go figure.

as much as i think its fine... ill enjoy the fact that i bought a model year where im not paying to be a reliability tester for the new generation. I dont ever line up at the store to buy anything on release day and that wont start with a truck. If the unfortunate happens ill take a good look at the newer trucks but will possibly seek out a 23'.

I kind of agree but not totally - I mean I get the 2022 WRX looks more up to date than the 2015 but how many WRX fans really care about the style. I know this is just a sample of one but for what it's worth I was looking at the WRX STI and believe me it wasn't for the style (as you can guess) . . . the $$$ was just to steep <sigh> But it was the same with the Taco - honestly style had nothing to do with the buy. Although I will admit I the 3 gen looks a lot better than the boxy random straight edges that are all over the 4th gen.
