When you say bottom of the MJT do you mean where it starts at the end of the Lockwood Canyon trail? If I remember right there's a small stream crossing and picnic tables around that area.

I notice you have 4x4, is it bad enough he needs a winch? I don't have a winch unfortunately and my upper ball joints are shot hopefully someone else in the area sees this. Are you a member on SCOR's facebook page? (Southern California Offroad Recovery). Let me know if you are still in need of help and I can post up your info on the page, there's usually always someone willing to come out and help

They said the bottom of the MJT which I assume is at the end of the Lockwood Canyon trail (where you cross the stream and there's a picnic table area). The only other end of the MJT I know of is at the very top where the big campground is.

 

Aren't some of them 2wd though? I don't know how they would have gotten through Lockwood in 2wd unless there's another way in to the MJT that I'm not aware of. Anyway let us know how the recovery goes, good luck

 

I think just Steve is 2wd. Apparently made it down fine, but going back up is the issue. I don't know, I'm just relaying the info. Hopefully they get it sorted, it's gonna be dark soon

 

Yeah there's no way anyone would make it up the MJT in 2wd, not sure if that's what they were trying to do or not. I've done it a few times and open diff 4x4s have a real hard time. At least they're at the bottom of the trail so it'll be lot easier to get out hopefully, getting stuck up the MJT would be a real bummer. First time I did it, we rode past an empty Lexus 4x4 suv that had a broken rear diff. Saw later a video on youtube, guy had to bring out some mechanics in their Jeeps and repair it on the trail.

 

He said they all went down, but that's not the end. He said it goes back up for 5 miles and that's the issue, at least for the 2wd. I don't know if he's locked

 

I dont think he is locked.

 

He's got an open diff, no locker
