If I had a clogged cat, wouldn't I be getting engine codes from the sensors? I replaced the o2 sensors in 2013 due to a p0420 code. The cel hasn't come on since then.

I'll check the trans mount, thanks for that tip. The carrier bearing was also replaced in 2013.

I've only got 141K miles on it. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like at 200K, if it even lasts that long. At this rate its not lookin like it will. Starting to make a lot of sense why so many people get new vehicles at 100K.

I think its something in my transmission. The shaking issues only happen in 3rd and 4th gears, which makes me think those gears are goin bad. That's my guess from my limited knowledge. Once I'm up in 5th/over 50mph its smooth. A guy rode with me and said he thought if it was the cat then the exhaust would be weak but the exhaust is strong.

So transmission is fine - it's the driveline. Specifically this double cardone u-joint. My mechanic has never seen one, apparently. So had to send it off to a powertrain specialist who claims it can't be rebuilt and has to order a new one from toyota. Yay...

How uncommon are double cardone joints? Is it something that only the 2002 tacomas have?

I had this same issue with my 96 Tacoma and I had to pay a mechanic $1000 to figure it out. I know this is an old post but I'm replying in case someone else has this issue and hopefully this saves them from having to pay so much. I'm currently broke and could barely afford so this message would have helped me.

If it's not the fuel filter, change both oxygen sensors.
