    Hey everyone..
This morning I was driving to work and it had just finished raining. Roads were extremely slick and I was in a hurry to get to work. As I'm approaching a left hand turn, crossing the street and turning...I lose traction in the rear and the truck starts to slide around. As I'm sliding my front wheels also lose traction so I'm doing a bit of a drift thing. Not going very fast but I did take the turn faster than usuall...was in a hurry. Anyway as I'm sliding the steering wheel and the rear of the truck made a noise like it was going to break. Is this what you all call axle wrap? It was kind of like a skipping noise but with a grinding sound. It's not the first time I've lost traction and it's made this noise. It just doesn't sound good...sounds fkn horrible actually. Any ideas? Seems like this part time 4 wheel drive A Trac whatever is actually not helping in slick situations.
BTW my truck is on a 3" fox lift and 285's.

Sounds like traction control kicking in. im assuming you were in 2wd? No that's not axle wrap.

Perfectly normal, look in your owners manual under slip indicator icon......

If the vehicle is in danger of slipping or if any of the drive wheels spins, the slip indicator light flashes to indicate that the VSC/TRAC systems are operating. Depending on the vehicle, a buzzer (intermittent) may sound to indicate that VSC is operating.

Do you need to know, or care?
Yup, ATRAC, sounds like your ass end is about to fall apart, but it's normal. You should hear it on ice!

Was it a drift or a Tokyo drift?

This is key to answering your question accurately.

Thanks guys. Was already thinking I had the curse of the 3rd gen.
No light came on while slipping but yeah it definitely felt like it had something to do with traction control.

That was the sound of your tans gears eating each other, its a 3rd gen. Toyota warranty should cover it, you have to back into a light pole first though.

Sounds like your diff-lock engaged on wet pavement.

I've had a couple of slides with the factory Hankooks. Man, these suck as bad as the last pair I put on my former truck. Can't wait to wear them out and replace with Michelins.

First time the VSC kicked in I almost jumped thru my own butthole.

Not to Hijack your thread OP..... while I have you here @Steve Urquell , I meant to ask you.
Any howling in your rear diff at all. I been watching the forums and it seems this to be a huge problem for the TRD , 8.75 rear diff guys....us with the SR ...and 8's rear diff seem not to have any issue, at least I don't anyhow. Just wondering if you do or know any SR owner that does.....I believe the general consensus to be mostly the TRD ORS with the 8.75 rear diffs.....just inquiring bro. Thanks.

I don't have the howl. I do have the 8.75" rear. All MT trucks have it.
